Increase in reports of domestic abuse

More people suffering domestic abuse are reporting the crime, according to a report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).

The recent report shows a 31% rise in reported cases of domestic abuse between 2013 and 2015.

A skittles challenge organised by The Family Law Company in Exeter raised £885 for the Exeter Deaf Academy.

The annual event was held at St Thomas Social Club in Cowick Street, and over thirty players took part, with teams from Walnut House and Magdalen Barristers’ Chambers, Thomas Westcott Accountants, Exeter Deaf Academy and hosts, The Family Law Company by Hartnell Chanot.

Help for grandparents prevented from seeing grandchildren

The Family Law Company in Exeter is holding a free seminar to support grandparents who currently have no access to their grandchildren.

Director Stephen Sowden, the firm’s grandparent specialist and a trustee of the Grandparents Association, will be leading the seminar at Oriel House on November 6 from 1.30 to 4pm.

An Associate Solicitor at The Family Law Company has been shortlisted in the prestigious national Family Law Awards.

Donna Hart from The Family Law Company in Exeter received the President’s Award in the recent Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) Awards for her commitment to members in Devon.

Raising funds for vital support services

The Family Law Company’s Domestic Violence and Private Law Children Team held a coffee and cake afternoon to raise funds for two local organisations: SAFE (Stop Abuse for Everyone) and Splitz Support Service.

Staff from the law firm baked cakes, and the catering equipment was donated by South West Events Hire. The event was well attended by members of the judiciary and Court Service, counsellors, financial advisers and local barristers and solicitors.

Exeter family law specialist, The Family Law Company recently presented a cheque for £1500 to FORCE Cancer Charity.

The sum was raised through various events, including a popular skittles evening that pitted teams of accountants, barristers and solicitors against each other, with Old Mill Accountants edging ahead to win on the night.
