Farmers from across Devon have made it to the shortlist of the region’s premier agricultural awards, the Devon Farm Business Awards. The awards, which are in their fourth year, are organised by Addington Fund, Stephens Scown LLP and Devon County Agricultural Association. Designed to celebrate and showcase the best farmers and farming businesses in Devon, the awards will take place on the eve of the Devon County Show, on 17 May. RD&E continues to perform well in National Inpatient Diabetes Audit

The high standard of diabetes care provided to inpatients at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has continued to improve according to the latest results of the National Inpatient Diabetes Audit (NADIA).

NADIA looks at the care of all inpatients with diabetes on a single day in all Trusts across England and Wales. It focuses on key staffing and organisational issues, clinical outcome measures and patient satisfaction levels.

Sky’s the limit for Lucy

An employee at Exeter based law firm Browne Jacobson has raised hundreds of pounds for a local charity by taking to the skies over East Devon.

Lucy Daffin, a legal assistant in the firm’s insurance practice, took part in a 15,000ft charity skydive in Dunkeswell and raised over £700 for local Dawlish charity, Richard’s Wish.

The event was organised by Lucy and the firm’s Exeter office charity committee which has close ties with Richard’s Wish, which was appointed as Browne Jacobson’s charity for the year, 2016-17.

Exeter Racecourse’s regional business development executive Hannah Hawkins is one of 12 riders who has been selected to take part in The Jockey Challenge, a one mile five furlong charity race that takes place at Warwick Racecourse on May 25 in aid of The Air Ambulance.

Hannah, 24, whose day to day job involves dealing with racing hospitality and sponsorship, is well placed to take part in the race having ridden in point-to-points. She’s had 25 rides in all and has won four times on a horse called Mister Moonax.

Gymnasts take top spots in novice championships

Last weekend it was the turn of Honiton Gymnastics Club’s stars of the future to display their prowess, as 52 gymnasts competed at the South West Club Development Championships in Sherborne, Dorset.

The results included two golds, a silver and three bronze medals.

Taking top honours were Grade 2 Group Daisy Spiller, Abigail Wilson & Libby Wray and Grade 1 Women’s Pair Chloe Hutsby and Hettie Behan. Chloe and Hettie raised the level even further, taking the top score of the whole day out of 133 partnerships.

Communities work with archaeologists to research history of Devon

Communities in Devon and Cornwall will be able to research the history of Roman, Iron Age and medieval settlements in the region by helping experts on a major archaeological dig and associated surveys this year.

Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, the University of Exeter has been awarded initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a £222,500 grant and development funding of £38,500.

Bampton residents celebrate opening of new library

Bampton residents and library staff were joined by Julie Dent CBE, Chair of Libraries Unlimited and local MP for Tiverton and Honiton Neil Parish, as they celebrated the successful relocation and official opening of the new Bampton Library on Thursday 6th April.

The library moved into its new, spacious and bright location within the Library and Resource Centre, Old Schoolroom, Bampton last month.
