The predictions have finally come true; we have killed our planet. Humanity has been forced underground, away from a surface that is no longer inhabitable, and is now running on borrowed time. When the power supply to this new home is cut off, a young group of friends, desperate to save their community, try to turn it back on. They are forced to confront their environment, their inheritance, and each other, and all the while time is running out…

Exeter Northcott Theatre’s Young Company re-launches with this re-imagining of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Following a week long residency exploring the themes of Coleridge’s classic work, the young actors combine the original text with physical theatre techniques to present a version of the poem which speaks to them as 21st Century teenagers.

Strictly Donkeys - an Afternoon with Ann Widdecombe

Come and join former MP, novelist and star of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing Ann Widdecombe on Thursday 21st September at 1.30pm at Reed Hall in Exeter. Ann will be regaling the audience with tales about her life and career, including her time on Strictly and of course her 15 years as patron of the charity Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land which cares for donkeys in desperate need in Israel and Palestine. Crafts, information and wildlife activities come to Exmouth

A fun-filled family day is being held on Exmouth's Maer Local Nature Reserve on Friday August 4 and East Devon District Council 's Countryside team will be there along with a number of other wildlife organisations.

The day starts at 10am where local Tai Chi instructor, Sam Forder will run a free 30 minute Tai Chi taster session.

The fun continues with a range of information and activities on offer including bug hunting, rockpooling and natural crafts. The event will have stalls from a number of organisations including the RSPB, Devon Loves Dogs and the Pebblebed Heaths...

Bee creative at Devon Wildlife Trust’s family fun day

Devon Wildlife Trust is inviting families to ‘bee creative in the garden’ at a special wild bee family fun day next week. On August 3, the charity will be opening the gates to the Cricklepit Mill wildlife garden for a family event that aims to celebrate bumblebees and solitary bees, heroes of the pollinator world. Children will have the chance to create a range of bee themed craft items, including alder bees to hang in the garden, bee mobiles, badge making and bee jewellery. Families can also have a go at making bee hotels from bamboo sticks and unique cob brick hotels for hairy-footed...

Dementia researchers raise thousands for charity in epic bike challenge

Five dementia researchers at the University of Exeter have pedalled over an epic 350 miles from London to Paris, raising thousands of pounds for Alzheimer’s Society in a gruelling four day challenge.

The team has raised more than £11,000 towards their £12,000 target to boost the Society’s ground-breaking dementia research, and they still hope to achieve their goal. To donate, visit their Justgiving page.

Exeter researcher wins prestigious diabetes research award

An Exeter researcher has just been awarded £362,337 from leading charity Diabetes UK to understand if certain genes can protect people from developing Type 2 diabetes. Dr Hanieh Yaghootkar who works at the University of Exeter Medical School has been awarded Diabetes UK’s R D Lawrence Fellowship, set up in recognition of the life and work of the late Dr R D Lawrence, co-founder of Diabetes UK. Robert Lindsay announced for Northcott Anniversary Gala

Exeter Northcott Theatre has announced that acclaimed actor Robert Lindsay will perform in its 50th anniversary gala in November.

Robert is an Olivier-winning actor known for his acclaimed performances both on and off screen, including appearances with the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well his role as the hapless dentist Ben Harper in BBC’s My Family.
