For nearly 25 years, Exeter has been twinned with Yaroslavl, a city in Russia, North-East of Moscow. This is a most unusual link as there are very few English cities linked to Russia.

Each year a group of Russian guests are hosted by English families and a group from Exeter spend a week in Yaroslavl, staying in Russian homes. It is a wonderful opportunity for both English and Russians to experience everyday life in an ordinary family and for everyone it is an unforgettable experience.

Exeter’s Christmas market is in full swing today with dozens of bespoke stalls trading on the Cathedral Green.

A mix of local traders and specialist stalls from overseas are trading in the alpine style market.

Local trader Mary Tempest, 63, won the Market’s Pitch-Perfect award designed to promote start-up businesses.

Mary, a local artist, is selling a range of her illustrations of local landmarks and historical sites, with designed key rings and mugs also on sale.

Ironbridge Runners - Charity Exeter Santa Run

A 5k fun run of a mile and a half on Exeter's Quayside on a flat traffic free route. All participants are required to wear a Santa Suit to join in the festivities and monies raised will go to children's charity Dream-A-Way.

Cats and kittens need keen bakers to help them.

The Friends of Axhayes Cats Protection Adoption Centre will be holding their Christmas coffee morning on Saturday 14th December between 11am and 2pm and are looking for donations of homemade cakes, mince pies, biscuits and other goodies that they can sell at the coffee morning to help raise much needed funds for the cats and kittens in their care.

They are also looking for donations of tombola prizes for the day. Every penny raised goes directly to looking after local cats and kittens in their care, which is approx 200+ at any one time.

'Nine Black Alps' and 'Then Thickens' come to Cavern

On 28 November the Cavern Cub will see two exciting new bands playing in one night. Both 'Nine Black Alps', a grunge-rocker group, and their supporting act, 'Then Thickens', have new singles coming out on 2 December produced by Leeds-based label 'Hatch Records'.

'Nine Black Alps' will coincide their new single with a short run of live dates in November, heading to Exeter, Manchester and London, among other venues. The song marks the first release for new Leeds-based record label, 'Hatch Records', which has emerged from the demise earlier this year of the influential and underground...

Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, is seeing an increase of people left with no wages and no money to pay their bills because of the closure of their employers’ business.

Following changes to the fee structure for employment tribunal claims, employees are left with no money and faced with an issue fee of up to £160 to lodge a claim for unpaid wages, holiday pay, notice pay, or redundancy pay, and a further fee of £230 for a hearing.
