Two men have been arrested after three drugs warrants were executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Exeter on Tuesday morning (25 February). Devon and Cornwall Police officers were supported by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) in a new partnership called Operation Assist. Officers entered three properties in the city at around 6.15am, before arresting two men on suspicion of the production and supply of Class B drugs. The men, aged 44 and 51, remain in police custody. A man and woman, both aged 70, have also voluntarily attended the police station in connection with these...
Rugby players, local businesses and even an otter have come together to support what is expected to be Hospiscare’s best ever Men’s Walk this March.
The rugby day out, taking place on Saturday March 15, will include new additions along the 10k route to keep the walkers both entertained and refreshed.
More than 400 men signed up to take part in the Men’s Walk last year, and Hospiscare Event Fundraiser Hannah Slater said the chance to have a lads and dads day out, coupled with the draw of watching three Six Nations matches at the home of the Exeter Chiefs, has seen men...
Stage-Wright Productions backed a winner in Suze Gardner's Motherland. A double first: new company and new play.
The script was amusing and informative, and portrayed the main character to perfection. We all know of Marie Stopes, but few know of her controversial and pioneering birth control clinics had a dual purpose: perporting to help the poorest of women limit the number of offspring, but equally furthering Stopes' rather more sinister involvement in eugenics. The script brought to light her dodgy personal contacts with...
The traditional routes to becoming a millionaire – marriage, inheritance, the lottery or a genius business idea – might seem a bit fanciful to many of us but, with ISA season upon us, reports suggest that there may be many ISA millionaires in the UK already. In fact several ISA investors at Brewin Dolphin, through judicial investment directly in equities, have amassed ISAs worth over £1 million. Brewin Dolphin has 15 clients with ISAs worth millions each and 40 with ISAs over £750k; though these clients pursued a direct equity strategy and were certainly prepared to take risks. The total...
One Month into my ten week placement in Cape Town, South Africa with the British Government programme International Citizen Service via the British charity Skillshare international. The vast amount of lessons learned so far from personal volunteering experiences and working in such a diverse country cannot be underestimated.
One cannot imagine how different and diverse Cape Town is to British culture. Cultural, political, geographical and racial diversity of South Africa is what makes the rainbow nation such a fabulous place. There is no disputing the fact that in terms of...

A new study led by the University of Exeter and Swansea University claims researchers have pinpointed the changes in the brain that lead gamblers to react in the same way to near-misses as they do to winning.
The research shows that near-misses are underpinned by increases in the brain’s electrical activity, particularly in the theta frequency range - known to be involved in processing win and loss outcomes.
They found that these increases in theta are linked to both how severe someone’s gambling history is and how susceptible they might be to developing a future gambling...
