Exeter residents are being asked for their views on a strategy aimed at cutting air pollution in the city.

Exeter City Council has just published its draft Low Emissions Strategy which sets out the ways the City Council and its partners plan to reduce air pollution caused by traffic. It aims to tackle nitrogen dioxide levels by reducing emissions from council-owned vehicles, as well as working with local businesses and organisations to increase the number of low emission vehicles and sustainable transport choices.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the end of this week as severe gales and heavy rain are set to hit the region.

A yellow warning of wind is in place for Friday, from the early hours of the morning, valid until noon.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “There is the potential for gales, or local severe gales, to develop across much of England and Wales during the first half of Friday, before easing by early afternoon.

“A band of heavy rain will accompany the low pressure system, this pushing quickly east through the day.

Paul Jepson, artistic director of Exeter’s Northcott Theatre, has unveiled the Civic Society’s newest plaque to actresses Violet and Dame Irene Vanbrugh

The blue plaque was unveiled on 4 December at the walkway between Roman Walk and Southernhay, near the Exeter Blitz Memorial, and close to the site of the house in Southernhay Place where Violet was born in 1867, but was demolished as a result of bombing during the Second World War.
