At a meeting on 14 January 2015, Devon County Council Cabinet considered a report of the Head of Services for Communities – SC/15/2 Public Transport Budget: Proposed Allocation which recommended that:
(a) that the proposed approach to reviewing current DCC funded bus services set out in section 4 is agreed; (b) that the revised Public Transport budget allocation for 2015/16 is agreed; (c) that the proposal for the Devon Community Transport fund is noted; (d) that a public consultation on the measures necessary to meet those budget targets is launched in January 2015
Connecting Devon and Somerset has confirmed extra funding has been raised for its superfast broadband programme, bringing the total to around £45 million.
Previously the programme had secured £38 million after local contributions were matched with Government funding.

Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 36-year-old woman’s body in Dawlish this morning (Thursday 29 January).
Police were called at around 6.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 January) following reports of a missing person, and an extensive search was undertaken by specialist officers and volunteer search and rescue groups.
A body was later discovered at a property in Iddesleigh Terrace, Dawlish at around 3am today.

England’s only breeding population of wild beavers look to have a brighter future after an announcement made today. Devon Wildlife Trust is hailing the decision by Natural England to grant the charity a five year licence to monitor the beavers as a key moment in the history of modern conservation. The charity is welcoming the positive news after spending months of hard work trying to secure a long term future for the animals. The beavers, which live on the River Otter in East Devon, were first discovered to be breeding in February 2014.

The Met Office has issued a fresh weather warning as heavy snow is forecast to hit Devon this weekend, with “blizzard conditions” predicted in parts of the region.
