Pop-up Opera comes to Devon

2014 saw Pop-up Opera tour for three seasons, with over 60 performances at 42 different venues all over the UK and in Corfu. For Spring 2015, they’re coming back with Mozart’s comic opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) about a hero, Belmonte, and his servant, Pedrillo, attempting to rescue their lovers Konstanze and Blonde from an Ottoman harem.

All kinds of high jinks and mishaps occur as they don disguises, make merry with the servants and sing an ode to Bacchus, god of wine, in an attempt to save their beloveds. The music contains some of Mozart'...

Exeter students scoop global technology prize

Students from the University of Exeter have stormed to victory in an international competition, with their innovative app that allows users to lock and unlock doors with their mobile phone.

The team of Computer Science undergraduates secured victory in the Project Arduino competition, organised by leading engineering and technology company Thales, following a worldwide public vote.

The winning entry, called ‘LockDuino’, allows doors to be locked and unlocked remotely via a mobile phone app, which connects to a small Arduino microprocessor that runs the locking system. The...

The family of Samuel Crocker, who died following a road traffic collision, have paid tribute to him.

Samuel's family said: "On Saturday afternoon our life was turned upside down when our darling Samuel was knocked down while on his way to visit his friend.

“Later that night the bright light that was Samuel was extinguished.

"We all miss our little 'mole' so much and can't begin to imagine how we move on from the devastating situation we are in now.

Devon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park has announced its employee of the year award to two members of staff.

Tim Leathers and Michael Payne-Hilton have been awarded the accolade for their hard work and commitment at the Park throughout 2014. The Employees of Year have been awarded with all-expenses paid trip to Disney World, Orlando.

This amazing prize also includes a week’s stay in a luxury hotel on the famous International Drive and tickets to Disney World and Universal Studios in May.

Fraud prevention efforts continue

Devon and Cornwall Police is supporting a fraud awareness campaign being launched across the region today.

The Home Office funded ‘Spot It, Stop It’ campaign aims to raise awareness of various scams people may fall prey to, particularly doorstep fraud and telephone and online scams.

There were 8,600 reports of fraud in Devon and Cornwall last year resulting in the loss of around £9 million.

Victims are usually aged between 61 and 90.

As part of the campaign the Home Office is surveying a cross-section of people over 60 to provide a snapshot of the awareness...
