Local people urged to choose the right service for their needs Devon’s acute hospitals and ambulance service are extremely busy, with people waiting a very long time in emergency departments to be seen and treated.

The local NHS, including South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, is appealing for people to choose the most appropriate service for their needs – to ensure people who need life-threatening and critical care can be treated as quickly as possible.

Former football manager with motor neurone disease appeals for others to take part in research

A dentist and former football manager whose life has changed dramatically since his ALS diagnosis has appealed with others who have the disease to join him in a new brain imaging study to help the race to find new treatments.

Devon Tesco shoppers part of record year of giving to food banks and charities

Devon Tesco shoppers have been their most generous ever in support of foodbanks and local charities, helping to make it a record-breaking year.

The total amount of food donated by Tesco shoppers to the Trussell Trust and FareShare during 2022 was equivalent of 12.5 million meals – 271,589 of which came from Devon.

The donations to the Trussell Trust help food banks to provide emergency food parcels to people in crisis, while donations to FareShare support frontline community charities. Tesco has also topped up all customer donations during the collection by 20% in cash,...

Exeter bus passengers treated to live carols and a visit from Santa

On Wednesday 14th December, passengers travelling through Exeter City Centre’s Bus Station were treated to a live Carol Concert as part of the Stagecoach South West ‘It’s Christmas’ event.

The fun-filled free afternoon was organised by staff at Stagecoach to wish their customers a Happy Christmas from the local transport operator. Exeter City Council Chief Executive announces retirement

Exeter City Council Chief Executive and Growth Director Karime Hassan has announced he is stepping down from the Council at the end of March.

The Council’s current Deputy Chief Executive Bindu Arjoon will become Interim Chief Executive from April 1 pending the outcome of work that the Council is doing with the Local Government Association in the New Year.

Magdalen Road scheme to start in January

A permanent scheme to make Exeter’s Magdalen Road one-way will start in January.

In a letter to local residents, Devon County Council has revealed work will begin on Monday, 16 January and take around three to four months to complete.

It will involve widening the northern footway to approximately match the existing temporary barriers, retaining the one-way (westbound) restriction for vehicular traffic and adding an advisory contra-flow cycle lane.

The National Trust Estate at Killerton has joined forces with Devon Carers this Christmas by inviting the charity’s Peer Support Craft Group to decorate one of the trees inside the house.
