Appeal for Exeter flood wardens

An Exeter community group is looking for volunteers to help protect local people from flooding. St Thomas Community Emergency Group aims to have a flood warden in every street to help warn and support vulnerable residents in the event of a flood.

The group is currently working on a community emergency plan with the Environment Agency. It is also helping businesses in St Thomas and Marsh Barton prepare for floods. Currently only a handful people have come forward as volunteers, but the group needs more.

Exeter Chiefs back coach Ali Hepher says his side will have to be on top form if they are to emerge triumphant from today's Sunday’s Aviva Premiership trip to Leicester Tigers (3pm).

The second-placed Chiefs made it back-to-back victories in the league a week ago when they defeated local rivals Bath 26-17 at Sandy Park, but their credentials are sure to be tested to the max by the Tigers, who themselves remain firmly in the play-off picture having thumped London Irish last time out.

One-woman play, This Is My Body comes to Exeter

The award-winning one-woman play, This Is My Body, will come to Exeter in March and will be directed by Exeter Northcott Theatre’s Artistic and Executive Director, Paul Jepson.

U-turn likely on Exeter beggars legislation

Controversial powers to deal with encampments on public land and begging, should not be adopted as part of a Public Spaces Protection Order, officers at Exeter City Council are likely to recommend.

The move comes as the Council revealed it had received more than 1,200 responses following a 4-month consultation exercise into whether a Public Spaces Protection Order should be introduced in Exeter.

These responses are now being carefully considered to inform a report that will go before councillors in the summer.

Taxpayers urged to check new tax codes

During this month taxpayers across the UK will be receiving their new tax codes, to be effective as of 6 April 2016.
