Some special guest climbers from the world of sport and local politics will be lining up to take to the wall and risk a soaking at Exeter Quay this weekend.

The Quay Climbing Centre’s Deep Water Solo competition, which sees a seven-metre wall built into the canal basin, takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend – and the thrilling event will kick off with some familiar faces.

Exeter Walk to beat blood cancer

Exeter resident and blood cancer patient Jamie Lynde (pictured in the middle) is organising the third annual Exeter Walk for blood cancer charity Bloodwise.

The fundraising walk, which starts at the Exeter Quay and follows the Exe Estuary Trail, will take place on Saturday 24th September this year. The family friendly event, which offers a choice of 8.6 or 12 mile routes, is open to all and members of the public are invited to sign up.

Quay climbing competition to make a return!

EXETER’S Quay will be buzzing this August Bank Holiday weekend as it plays host to some of the world’s top climbers at a spectacular climbing competition.

Thousands of spectators are expected to attend the thrilling climbing event on the Quay - and if you fancy dropping off a seven metre wall into the canal - they’ll also be a chance for novices to have a go.

Quay Climbing is staging its third annual Deep Water Solo Festival of Climbing over the August Bank Holiday weekend; the event sees a temporary seven metre high climbing wall erected in the city’s canal basin.

Business is booming on Exeter Quayside

Business is booming at Exeter's resurgent Quayside with local traders reporting good times at the tills, as more and more events are held at the city attraction.

With only six months of the year gone , the popular location has already hosted 77 events. In 2015, 81 events were held at the Quay and in 2014 the figure was 50, meaning 2016 is set smash previous records.

Among the events taking place this summer are regattas, raft and dragon boat races on the water, Jazz on the Quay, Exeter Street Food Markets and many more.

Appeal after man assaulted on Exeter Quay

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted on the Quay in Exeter on Sunday 20 March 2016.

A 62-year-old man from Exeter was walking along the canal at 9pm when he was approached by two young males on bikes who then pushed him into the river. As a result, the man suffered from hypothermia and an ambulance was called.

Acting Sergeant Andy Boundy said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at this time and may have witnessed the incident.

Exeter climbers attempt to summit Everest... in one day

Climbers at The Quay Climbing Centre in Exeter will be attempting to climb the height of Everest on Friday 12th June as part of a fund raising day to support earthquake relief projects in Nepal.
