A new work for choir and orchestra inspired by a book of Saxon poetry is to be heard for the first time at Exeter Cathedral on March 12.
‘The Seafarer’ by Andrew Millington will be performed by The Exeter Philharmonic Choir in a special, sea-themed concert. Andrew was Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral from 1999 to 2015 and has been leading the choir since 2003. Exeter Philharmonic Choir celebrates the beginning of summer with a programme of thrilling pieces in the wonderful acoustics of The Mint Methodist Church under the baton of their director, Andrew Millington. The programme includes the much-loved Gloria by Vivaldi, Handel's Chandos Athem with its echoes of the famous Zadok The Priest and the less familiar setting of the Magnificat by Pergolesi.
A special afternoon concert is being staged in the city’s historic Guildhall on Saturday, 18 April by a chamber ensemble of Exeter Philharmonic Choir. The two-hour mayoral reception will begin at 2 pm, followed by music and verse performed by EPC’s Pilgrims’ Chorus under the expert leadership of its Musical Director, Stephen Tanner. The event will raise funds for the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s chosen charity, Riding for the Disabled - Exeter Group.
