Westpoint, Exeter welcomes back the much loved Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycrafts show, from the 25-28 September.

This popular show (previously known as Creative Stitches) has been running since 1990 and is a must visit for all avid creative and craft lovers.

Survey paints portrait of village hall life

England’s 10,000 village halls rely on more than 12 million hours of volunteering each year to deliver their vital role at the heart of rural communities, a new survey* has revealed.

The survey, by leading rural specialists ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), showed volunteers who run classes and events put in 2.5 million hours annually. That’s on top of the estimated 9.6 million hours clocked up by management committees.

On Saturday 30th August The Real McCoy customers and Pickle Shack pop-up restaurant regulars were treated to an indulgent dining experience in the quirky surrounds of McCoy’s Arcade. With a tapas theme, cocktails galore and music from raucous Klezmer influenced band Hazaar the night was an overwhelming success. Comedy at the Park

The Exeter Chiefs’ Comedy Night on October 10th is a new event on the Sandy Park calendar and promises to be a rip-roaring evening of entertainment.

The hilarious line-up includes Jim Grant, a compere with ‘razor-sharp wit’, multi award-winning Julian Deane, who is currently performing his ‘first-rate material’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Ray Crawford, who has been described as the ‘funniest and most original Australian comedian ever’.

Tickets are on sale now at just £10 and doors will open at 7.30pm, with the first comedian taking to the stage at 8.30pm.

Sky dive record attempt fun day

Devon- and Cornwall-based charity, Pete’s Dragons is set to embark on its biggest fund raising event yet - a record of 60 sky dives from 15,000 feet and falling at around 135mph - raising money for Cornwall Search & Rescue and The Samaritans.

But to get these adrenaline junkies as far as Dunkerswell Aerodrome, they need to raise vital funds to get the campaign kick-started. Hoping to raise the cash needed, volunteers are holding a Family Fun Day and Dog Show at Westpoint Exeter on 6th September, welcoming the public for a day of entertainment for all ages.

Former Exeter Chiefs hooker, Chris Whitehead has confirmed a series of events celebrating his career in professional rugby having been forced into retirement earlier this year due to a neck injury.

One of Exeter’s long-standing independent businesses is teaming up with a local start-up to host a pop-up restaurant in Exeter on Saturday 30 August.
