Traffic-calming dragon appears outside St Michael's C of E Primary Academy

Pupils at St Michael's Church of England Primary Academy in Exeter will be welcomed back to school by a large mythical dragon when they return after the summer break.

The colourful dragon is designed to slow traffic and encourage people driving to be more aware of people who are walking and cycling, to make the space outside the school safer for school children and other road users. The dragon spans the road outside the school and is the first of its kind in Devon.

Flying Dragon foretells a momentous happening

A newly designed flag depicting the mythical Killerton Dragon was hoisted up the flagpole by villagers of Silvertonshire this week.

This was to herald the coming of the Silverton Street Market on 3 August. William Hacking, 93 and Harry Madams, 7 were representing the community.

Legend has it that the dragon was born out of the flames of the ancient Killerton volcano and only appears on momentous occasions. According to locals it was last seen just before the Millennium swooping over the village doing a loop-the-loop.

As Matt Smith's tenure as Dr Who comes to an end, I found this rather amusing video from behind the scenes of upcoming 50th anniversary special. It does seem slightly sad that just as I, and the rest of my family, were beginning to warm to "The New Doctor" he gets replaced by the "Old Dragon". It does present a strange kind of symmetry however.
