Better cycling, walking and park & ride provision to tackle congestion in Exeter under Labour

Cycling, walking and park and ride will be boosted and smart ticketing on buses and trains introduced to help tackle congestion and pollution in Exeter if Labour retains control of the council in May.

The council will also insist on more frequent local services and stops at Exeter's train stations as both of the rail franchises serving the city come up for renewal.

Police search for weapons following Exeter attack

Searches continue in an attempt to locate the weapons possibly used in an attack in Exeter on Wednesday.

Officers were called to a property in the area of Lower Summerlands and Clifton Road at 1.10am on Wednesday 6 April.

A man, who is not from the local area, was found with serious injuries which were described as life-threatening.

The victim of the attack currently remains in hospital and his condition is now described as stable and conscious.

A man in his 40s is currently in police custody and awaits questioning in connection with this incident.

Topsham's Outdoor Pool opens on Saturday

Topsham Outdoor Pool will open for the season earlier than ever this year, on Saturday 9th April.

Volunteers, helpers and members of the Topsham Nutters club have been busy scrubbing, bleaching, polishing and planting aroundd the pool ready for opening.

The pool will kick start with a fun session from 10am-midday. The new timetables have arrived and can be collected from the pool or online via topshampool.com

Pool volunteers and helpers are also invited on Sunday 10th April at 2pm for a chance to get together on opening weekend. Find out what's going on this season...

Stockley happy to stay with Exeter City

Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley has revealed he would be happy to remain at the club after his current loan deal expires at the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has had multiple temporary spells in his short career with clubs such as; Portsmouth, Torquay United, Luton Town and Cambridge United, whilst his parent club Bournemouth have risen to the wonders of the Premier League.

Exeter Chiefs fly-half Gareth Steenson says his side are fully focused, as they prepare their visit to Wasps in the European Champions Cup Quarter final.

Steenson has been ever present in the Chiefs rise in recent years and has praised the hard work of the club, which has seen them qualify for their first European quater-final.

Bin collections suspended as police investigate serious assault in Exeter

Rubbish collections have been suspended in some parts of Newtown following a serious assault which left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Devon & Cornwall Police has asked Exeter City Council to suspend collections of household waste while investigations continue into the incident.

Collections will not take place in the following roads until further notice:

Exeter school pupils take part in innovative Erasmus + project with Spain and Latvia

Redhills Primary school in Exeter, Andrés García Soler Primary in Lorca (Spain) and Riga Classical Gymnasium, in Riga (Latvia) have been successful in gaining Erasmus+ funding to carry out the project "CLIL as a tool for change in the Primary classroom.

CLIL is a methodology which is up and coming in most European Educational systems at this moment in time and it helps schools integrate the teaching of language and content simultaneously apart from providing children with a real memorable learning experience.

Cash for councils to fill potholes

Motorists and cyclists are set to benefit after the Government today (Thursday 7 April 2016) announced how £50 million of funding will repair nearly one million potholes across the country over the next 12 months.

Fifteen councils in South West will receive a share of £8.4 million, helping to remove around 159,000 potholes from local roads during this financial year, with Devon County Council receiving £1.9 million to fill around 37,000 potholes.
