Exeter-based Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed a memorable day out visiting Bridwell Estate at Uffculme.

Bathed in late Autumn sunshine, the 100 acre estate never looked lovelier.

Founder/hostess Sally Sedgman, co-hostess June Hutchings and administrator Lydia Vanstone and their guests were greeted by Lord Ivar Mountbatten and his partner James Coyne who gave them an exclusive tour of the Georgian house, orangery and chapel, complete with a wry commentary about the history of the house.

The team at the Exeter Christmas Market are all hands on deck in a final push to prepare the festive market for opening this Saturday on Cathedral Green.

After the recent fire which destroyed several historical buildings in Cathedral Yard, there was concern that the market may not have been able to go ahead. But thanks to the hard work of teams at Exeter City Council, Exeter Cathedral and Market Place (operators of the market) who worked closely with safety advisors, a safe and appropriate way forward was established.

The massive contribution of former Hospiscare Chairman Patrick Beasley was dramatically recognised this week as he won the prestigious Anne Norfolk Lifetime Achievement Award.

Patrick, who retired as Chairman of Hospiscare in September received the special glass award at a conference in Liverpool on Wednesday 16th November. This is the sixth year of the award programme. The award was given to Patrick in recognition of his outstanding service to the hospice movement both nationally and internationally.

Popular lane set to reopen to public following Exeter fire

Work is being carried out to open up Martin’s Lane in Exeter following last month’s city centre fire. Christmas lights are also being installed outside shops in and around Cathedral Yard by the Business Improvement District (BID).

Contractors are looking to get the Lane, back in use by the end of play on Monday as well as removing the cordon at the bottom end of Catherine Street. Devon’s JSA caimants fall to record low during October

The number of Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon fell slightly during October, representing the lowest claimant rate on record for the seventh consecutive month.

The total claimant count now stands at 2,847 - a 24% fall when compared to the same time last year.

Three of Devon’s eight districts experienced falls in JSA - Exeter experiencing the greatest fall of 31 claimants. There were also falls in North and Mid Devon of 12 and 15 respectively.

South Hams experienced the greatest increase, with a rise of 14 claimants.
