Extra roads cash as repair backlog hits £200m

Extra funding to help repair Devon’s battered roads has been approved but comes as the county’s backlog of repairs hits an estimated £200 million.

Thanks to savings accrued during the year and a budget underspend, Devon is now able to put £12 million extra into maintaining the county’s roads, notably repairing its deluge of potholes and improving drainage issues.

But Devon County Council’s cabinet heard that the extra cash comes as the repair bill for outstanding maintenance on the county’s roads is thought to be £200 million.

IKEA has announced that it will be hosting a car boot event in Exeter this spring, following a successful pilot last year.

Local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter has made a generous donation of £1,500 to Okehampton Primary School to support the renovation of its playground facilities for more than 500 students.

Recognising the need to improve its two outdated playgrounds which cater to younger and older students, the school has embarked on a project to revamp these areas, ensuring they provide safe and engaging environments for years to come. Mrs Moretta, the headteacher at Whipton Barton Federation, part of the Ted Wragg Trust was pleased to attend the ‘Proud to Be’ community event held at The Beacon Centre, along with Mrs Williams the assistant headteacher.

The staff were in attendance on behalf of four pupils from the school who were winners in the postcard competition. The children's entries celebrated the places in their local community that they are proud of.
