Dairy Farmers across SW set for major boost from new trade deals

Farmers across the South West are set to benefit from future Free Trade Agreements with the US, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, which will open up new opportunities to sell local produce overseas.

The International Trade Minister, Ranil Jayawardena visited a number of farms across the South West today including Quicke’s Farm and The Black Farmer, to see first-hand the agricultural exporting potential of the region and discuss future opportunities for growth.

Warning to take extra care in strong winds

Devon County Council is advising people to take extra care when travelling during the current storm conditions.

Following further torrential downpours today, surface water flooding, landslips and fallen trees have caused disruption on a number of roads across the county.

A Met Office Yellow Warning of strong winds, in force from 8pm tonight and extending throughout tomorrow and into Friday, could create further issues with gusts of up to 60mph expected. Coastal areas could bear the brunt of these strong winds.

COVID-19 grant creates lasting benefits for Exeter Veterans’ Hub

Virtual support sessions started during lockdown by the Armed Forces Community Support Hub in Exeter, will have long term benefits for the project after proving a hit with users.

The Hub (based in the Exeter CoLab), which provides support for veterans and their families across Devon, some of whom have complex mental health conditions including PTSD, depression and anxiety, received two grants from Devon County Council’s COVID-19 Prompt Action Fund, totalling over £5,000.

People from across the south west have helped a new vaccine trial registry for Covid-19 research reach a milestone. Over 100,000 people have now signed up to the NHS COVID-19 vaccine registry, helping to speed up efforts to discover safe and effective vaccines. Tesco stores in Devon to hold extra food collection

Devon’s Tesco stores are holding a special summer food collection to support the Trussell Trust and FareShare charities as they respond to an increased demand for food in the wake of the pandemic.

From August 20 to 22 customers can donate essential items of long-life food to the good causes. Tesco will top up all customer donations with an additional 20% donation in cash to the two charities.
