Devon’s residents are being urged to “Get Boosted Now” as part of an urgent national appeal to give themselves better protection from the Omicron Covid-19 variant; which is much more transmissible than previous variants.

The NHS in Devon is working to increase the number of vaccine clinics and extend opening hours following the Prime Minister’s announcement last night (12 December) of the Omicron emergency booster mission. The NHS in Devon is encouraging local people to use NHS 111 online to get urgent medical advice quickly as we enter what England’s top doctor says will be a ‘winter like no other’.

Patients should continue to come forward for care and are still being encouraged to speak to a pharmacist, GP or call 111 if they need urgent advice.

NHS 111 online can direct patients to urgent treatment centres and walk in clinics, GP surgeries, pharmacies and emergency dental services and, if needed, a call from a healthcare professional.

Lower-income householders across Devon can benefit from free energy efficiency improvements to their home worth thousands of pounds.

Devon County Council has formed a partnership with other councils in the region to offer homeowners and tenants the chance to save on energy bills and lower the emissions of their property.

People in Exwick could be getting an award-winning chippie.

Exmouth-based Krispies wants to expand and has its eye on a former betting shop in the suburb of Exeter.

Husband and wife Kelly and Tim Barnes started their business in the seaside town more than 20 years ago and now have two stores: in Exeter Road and Pines Road.

The Devon stage of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain 2021 attracted the biggest crowd of this year’s race, according to a new independent report.

The report commissioned by the Tour has revealed that around 200,000 spectators watched Stage Two along the 115-mile route from Sherford to Exeter – bringing more than £4.2 million into the local economy.

Exeter student aims to combat world hunger with ‘nutritionally complete’ and sustainable food bar

An Economics student is juggling his studies with plans to tackle world hunger by developing a ‘nutritionally complete’ food bar, which has already proved a hit with Exeter’s homelessness charities.

James Frost, a third year student at the University of Exeter Business School, was inspired to create the Phoenix Bar after noticing on Facebook that a friend had pledged to eat the same food for a week as Syrian refugees arriving in the UK.

Devon is expecting another battering from the latest named storm tomorrow (Tuesday 7 December).

Storm Barra is forecast to bring gale force winds, particularly in coastal areas, from 9am tomorrow until 6pm on Wednesday.
