Contract statuses of Exeter City players announced

Exeter City have submitted their retained list to the Football League, regarding players whose contracts are scheduled to expired this summer.

Tommy Doherty, Steve Tully, John O’Flynn, Tom Nichols and Myles Anderson have all been offered contracts to remain with the Grecians during the 2013/14 season. One year after being airlifted from a major crash, Matthew Tooke cycles the Devon borders for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT).

Over five days, 25-29 May 2013, Matthew Tooke will be cycling the entire borders of Devon for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT). This comes literally one year after he was airlifted from a terrifying road traffic accident.

By no means of the imagination can we say that we have had a good spring - here we are in May and there are still heavy rainstorms across the South West and although there are no reports of snow in Exeter, there have been snow showers on Dartmoor! - however nature is doing its utmost to shine despite the inclement weather.

35,000 fewer jobs in South West, says TUC as general secretary Frances O'Grady visits region

There were 35,000 fewer jobs in the South West at the end of last year than before the recession, according to the latest workforce Jobs figures published by the Office for National Statistics. The workforce jobs figures show that September 2007 and September 2012, the number of jobs in the South West fell by 35,000. Across the UK only three regions – London, the South East and Wales – experienced any net growth in jobs. Devon Faiths Training for Major Incidents

More than 70 volunteers from seven different churches and six other faith and belief traditions have now been trained to be able to respond in the event of a major emergency in Devon, Plymouth or Torbay. The Devon Faiths Response Team (DFRT) recently held a further training workshop at County Hall, Exeter at which participants heard from South Devon Coroner Ian Arrow and trauma specialist Liz Deane. Night of outstanding winners at Devon Sports Awards

Organisers of the Devon Sports Awards, Active Devon and The Exeter Foundation proclaimed last night’s glittering ceremony a huge success as over 250 people came together to celebrate a year of sporting success across the county.

Exeter and East Devon did particularly well winning five of the twelve categories including the coveted ‘Exeter Chiefs’ Outstanding Contribution to Sport Award, in addition to six runner up places.

£35,000 up for grabs for sport in Budleigh Salterton

Budleigh Salterton parish residents are being asked to decide how to spend £35,000 available for sports in the area.

Budleigh Salterton Town Council and EDDC are taking their voting stall to Budleigh Gala Week, The Green, Budleigh Salterton on Saturday 25 May between 1pm and 4.30pm. So why not go along and cast your vote?

The money has come from recent housing developments (Section 106 money) in the parish. It is now up to residents to decide how the money is used.

Young people help in hunt for Devon’s next Bishop

Young people from churches across Devon will have the chance to say what they want the county’s next bishop to be like, in an event organised by the Diocese of Exeter. Young people will be able to record their views and thoughts on what makes for a good bishop in video diary rooms set up especially for the day.
