Championing the South West’s best independent food and drink businesses, the Food Reader Awards were celebrated with a ceremony at Windslade Manor on Monday 27th June. The results of a consumer survey, which reveals that 88 per cent of local people try to buy Devon-sourced goods whenever possible, presents a ‘huge opportunity’ for local businesses says Devon County Council’s (DCC) Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery.

Tesco makes it even easier for Devon shoppers to help food banks and charities.

Tesco is making it easier than ever for shoppers in Devon to give a helping hand to food banks and charities feeding people in their community.

The Tesco Food Collection is taking place in every large Tesco store from June 30 to July 2, and shoppers are being urged to donate long-life food to support local food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network and thousands of frontline charities supplied by FareShare. Tesco will top up all food donations made during the collection with an extra 20% cash donation to support the two charities.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) data suggest that around 1.7 million people in the UK were estimated to have coronavirus in the week ending 18 June, an increase of 23 per cent in one week.

In Devon, the ONS data is showing a continuing rise in the number of people in hospital with coronavirus, and a rise in positive cases overall.
