Otter Nurseries mark anniversary at show

Otter Nurseries will be paying homage to its own anniversary at this year’s Devon County Show with a display based around events in its history.

The team at the popular East Devon garden centre has designed a two-sided stand to both acknowledge the roots of the business and show how far it has come.

One side of the stand will be a step back in time to 1964 with old gardening equipment, a vintage T20 Ford tractor and some of the first types of plants sold by the nurseries, such as pansies and lettuces.

The Duke of Kent is to attend the Devon County Show at Westpoint, Exeter on Friday, May 23. It will be The Duke’s first visit to the county’s largest annual event where he will be accompanied by Show President Sir Eric Dancer, KCVO, CBE, JP, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon. Devon County Show's new website for mobiles

The Devon County Show has rolled out a brand new mobile website designed to be used on all smartphones and small tablet devices.

The new site, available to view at the usual web address - www.devoncountyshow.co.uk - helps visitors using handheld devices to get the most out of their day at the Show on May 22-24 at Westpoint, Exeter.

Show Secretary Ollie Allen said demand from users of mobiles and tablets is growing rapidly: “Visits to our website from mobile devices increased by 85 per cent over the last year and numbers are set to increase dramatically again this year....

Devon's County Show's double celebrations

The Devon County Agricultural Association, organisers of the Devon County Show, the county’s largest annual event, is gearing up for a double celebration this year.

2014 will be the 119th County Show, an annual celebration of farming, food and the countryside, and it is 25 years since the Association took ownership of the Westpoint showground, which is home to the County Show and its wholly owned subsidiary company - Westpoint Centre (Devon).

Sir Eric Dancer, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, has been appointed President of the Devon County Agricultural Association, organisers of the Devon County Show (May 22-24). He succeeds the Hon. George Lopes DL.

Sir Eric was appointed Lord Lieutenant by Her Majesty the Queen in 1998. He is her official representative in the county of Devon and has organised many royal visits to the Devon County Show.

One of West Country farming’s best known personalities, Ollie Allen, organiser of the Devon County Show, has taken over as Chairman of a national organisation, the Association of Shows and Agricultural Organisations (ASAO). So I was at the Devon County Show today and I struck up a conversation with one of the traders. It turned out we both hailed from the same place. Show success for Devon blinds firm

An East Devon firm has reported brisk trade at this year’s County Show. Marla Custom Blinds’ boss Steve Hartland said the three-day event had generated a number of new leads for the business, which specialises in commercial and domestic blinds for windows and conservatories.
