Colyton Grammar School maintains Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating

In what was probably the final Ofsted inspection of a school before lockdown, school inspectors have confirmed that Colyton Grammar School has maintained its ‘Outstanding’ rating while praising its students, staff and wider school community.

Colyton Grammar School is a state school with 954 students who come from across Devon, Somerset and Dorset.

Two teams from Colyton Grammar School, a state selective secondary school in Devon, have come top in the national Student Investor Challenge competition, beating 9,369 teams from schools around the country.

This is the first time that a school has had two teams in the final and taken the top two spots. The winning team from the school – RIJJED, comprising Year 10 students – is the youngest ever team to win the overall competition.

Colyton Grammar School secures £490,000 to support access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds

Colyton Grammar School in Devon is one of 16 selective grammar schools in the country to secure a share of a £50 million fund from the Department of Education to support better access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school has received £490,000 to which it has added its own funds, and money from other external sources of funding, to create a total pot of almost £612,000. Latest figures from the Department for Education (DfE) show that Colyton Grammar School is the best performing co-educational secondary school in England, and the highest scoring school in the South West - Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset. It achieved a Progress 8 score of 1.00, a rating described by the DfE league table as ‘well above average’. Only 14% of 6,530 secondary schools in the country achieved this rating. Outstanding GCSE results for Colyton Grammar School

Students, parents and staff at Colyton Grammar School are celebrating outstanding GCSE results, which have seen the school outperform the national average by some considerable margin.

In all, 87% of students who sat GCSEs this year achieved the top three grades of 9 to 7. 99% achieved grades 9 to 5, and 40% achieved a grade 9, ten times the national average of 4%.

Some 21 students achieved the coveted eight or more subjects with grade 9, around 18% of this year’s GCSEs cohort. This compares to the national predicted result for this achievement of 0.2%.

Ashwoods Electric Motors, the UK’s largest IPM motor manufacturing facility, have sponsored one of Colyton Grammar School’s VEX Robotics teams, to support STEM in schools and encourage the engineers of the future.
