The sunshine is out, but it’s never too early to think about Christmas!

Rediscover Church in Northernhay Street, Exeter, each year puts together hampers packed full of food to give out to people in need during the festive season.

We all know during the Christmas season it can be tough on finances, and these hampers are a much needed boost and relief to help people get by, bringing a smile to people’s faces.

Last year, they gave out a huge 1300+ hampers to families and individuals. A number of these were personally delivered to households.

The magical event that set Connaught Gardens alight with illuminations last year has been confirmed for the start of festivities for Christmas 2022.

This time the event will run for longer, spanning two weekends from Friday December 9 to Sunday December 18 with the first session starting at 4.30pm and last entrance at 8pm.

Event organiser John Radford said: “We were totally overwhelmed with the feedback we received after the first Connaught@Christmas, we had so many positive comments about the event and how it was such a lovely addition to Sidmouth.”

Exeter Northcott Theatre and Le Navet Bete to present an original panto adventure - Robin Hood!

Exeter’s flagship theatre and the city’s very own merry men, Le Navet Bete, are to collaborate on the creation of a brand-new Christmas production of Robin Hood . Exeter Northcott has an established reputation for presenting large scale, quality pantomimes, with more than 18,000 people of all ages enjoying Beauty & The Beast in 2019.

Aldi donates 9,350 meals to charities in Devon over Christmas

Aldi has supported local charities, community groups and food banks in Devon by donating 9,350 meals to people in need this Christmas.

The supermarket paired up its stores with local organisations to make the most of unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, as part of its pledge to donate 1.8 million meals to families experiencing food poverty during November and December.

Around 550,000 meals were donated nationwide and more than 700 UK causes benefitted from the initiative over the festive period.

The South West's largest housebuilder is delivering all Christmas gifts received from suppliers to local foodbanks in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall this week, along with a financial donation.

Tilia Homes collects gifts for local Salvation Army Christmas appeal

Tilia Homes’ Western region has delivered 75 gifts to Salvation Army centres in the south west, as part of the charity’s Christmas Present Appeal.

The Exeter-based business brought together its employees, contractors, and home buyers to donate toys to the appeal, which Tilia Homes collected at its development sales offices and delivered to its nearest Salvation Army centres. Devon GP surgery Christmas and New Year opening times

Patients across Devon are being reminded that most GP practices will be closed over the festive and New Year period and that if they need medical advice to make use of alternative services such as 111.

Most GP practices will close at the end of the day on Friday 24 December and will re-open again on Wednesday 29 December until Friday 31 December. They will then be closed again from Saturday 1 January until Monday 3 January due the New Year bank holiday.

Exeter Dunelm and customers deliver joy to Sainthill House Care Home this Christmas

Residents at Sainthill House Care Home in Exeter this week received Christmas gifts, courtesy of Dunelm’s generous colleagues and customers.

The donation was the result of the retailer’s Delivering Joy campaign, which saw Exeter shoppers purchase gifts for people in need in their local community.
