The hot and spicy history of the chilli plant will be on the menu as part of a special hot chocolate-themed event in Exeter.

Chilli peppers are eaten by a quarter of the earth’s population every day. This history of the plant shows the story of migration and social changes around the globe.

University of Exeter researcher William Jaggard – known to his friends as “chilliam” – is an expert on the plant and passionate about its place in cookery and horticulture. He has been asked by the Exeter Seed Bank to be a guardian for the chilli.

Lovers of extreme hot food – you have been warned!

If you thought the notorious Komodo Dragon – a chilli pepper launched last year by Tesco - was hot stuff then just wait till you try the Carolina Reaper which goes on sale at the supermarket tomorrow.

Devon Chilli Fiesta - Photo Competition - Enter Now!

During the chilli fiesta, we will be hosting a special photography competition. The theme is chillies!

We will be offering prices for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and the judges will be the general public who attend the event. However you do not need to attend to enter.

A shortlist of 20 pictures will be selected by a panel of judges from the entries and then these photos will be blown up to prints measuring 18 inches by 12 inches. We will be working in conjunction with a local digital media specialist to help with this.

This is a debut for the chilli fiesta in Devon, but will be held in an amazing setting in 65 acres of wonderful gardens, lakes and woodlands.
