Remarkable Television – makers of Pointless (BBC One) and Deal or No Deal (Channel 4) – is looking for brilliant children to spell some big words in an exciting new TV competition.

‘Spelling Star’ follows a number of children as they take on various word-based competition rounds, from speed spelling to identifying incorrectly spelled words, and clue-based questions to relay-style challenges.

So, if your child is aged between nine and 13, has a love of words and would enjoy taking on a host of fun spelling games and challenges... then they want to hear from you both!...

More children to benefit from Bikeability training

Around 3,500 schoolchildren in Devon are to benefit from Bikeability cycle training over the next few months.

Devon County Council has successfully secured £140,000 of funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) to provide the training in the county by August. More than 7,400 children in Devon have taken part in Bikeability over the past year. Since 2009, Devon County Council has successfully bid for more than £1.7 million to deliver cycle training in Devon. Schoolchildren who take part are given real cycling experience and skills to equip them to confidently deal with traffic...

Police continue to dig at former home of paedophile couple

Police are continuing to investigate the garden at the former home of a paedophile couple, who knew serial killers Fred and Rose West.

Excavations began on Tuesday 3 May in the rear garden of a bungalow in Bradnich, near Cullompton, following historic intelligence linked to the former occupants of the council-owned property, David and Pauline Williams.

David Williams was jailed for life in 2015 and his wife Pauline for 12 years for putting 10 girls and boys through rape, sexual assault and beatings.

The couple became friends of the Wests in Gloucester in the 1980s...

Campaign launches for more Lollipoppers

Motor insurance specialist, Churchill Insurance, has launched a nationwide campaign to identify schools in need of a Lollipopper and have pledged to recruit and deploy 50 in areas of need for the next school year. The campaign, launched by actor and father-of-two, Robert Webb, will give the public the opportunity to nominate a primary school they feel is in need of a Lollipopper before 50 are selected by representatives from Churchill, road safety charity Brake and leading parent champions PTA UK. Outdoor Explorer Club launches at Killerton

The National Trust is launching an Outdoor Explorer Club for kids at the Killerton estate near Exeter. The club is all about adventures and exploring – with no parents allowed.

The importance of outdoor experiences in childhood is part of the National Trust’s strategy to engage young people with nature as part of its Land, Outdoors and Nature programme. One of the goals the Trust has set itself is to re-connect children with nature, which benefits physical and mental wellbeing.

A primary school teacher from Devon has launched an app 'Fonics' designed to help 3-6 year olds learn how to read more effectively. The app is free and is available to download now across all major app stores.
