Exhibition: Jerwood Makers Open

Launched in 2010, Jerwood Makers Open is a biennial opportunity focusing on UK makers who propose to make ambitious, radical work in their first years of practice.

Five artists, Sam Bakewell, Juli Bolaños-Durman, Jessica Harrison, Marcin Rusak and Laura Youngson Coll, were selected from 271 submissions.

Each received grants to develop and tour new work in a diverse range of materials. Exhibits incorporate chainsaw-carved wood, parian porcelain, repurposed glass, organic waste, vellum and fish skin.

Fairy houses and paper giraffe on show in new exhibition

Freehand is a new exhibition of inspirational craftwork made by local young people and adults in workshops run by the Devon Guild, during 2014-15

Exhibition runs until Sunday 5 July.

The gallery will show objects made in a series of community workshops by Guild makers and artists, who worked with children and young people supported by social services and with complex needs, older people living in supported communities, refugees, adults with learning disabilities and prisoners from HMP Dartmoor. Together they have produced truly inspirational work including large paper mache...

The finest china – and some porcelain puppies

Porcelain Complexion - a new exhibition from Devon Guild and Plymouth Museum on show at Bovey Tracey's craft gallery from 4 October to 17 November.

The exhibition tells the story of porcelain’s journey from China to Devon. It combines historical artefacts specially loaned from Plymouth Museum with the work of several contemporary makers. Amongst the antique tea-ware sits Carl – part of a group of hand-dipped porcelain dogs by Helen Felcey. For her, porcelain embodies both sharpness and softness and gives the familiar an other-worldly quality.

Artist's Talk: Porcelain City!

Notable ceramicist, Takeshi Yasuda, will talk about Jingdezhen, the city in China associated with the historical and contemporary production of porcelain. He will give illustrated examples of how clay from Kaolin mountains was created in the city and expand upon his own work currently on show in the Devon Guild exhibition Porcelain Complexion.

Summer craft exhibition: Make a Mark

The Guild’s annual summer exhibition by its Membership features handling pieces, samples, sketches and background material alongside finished craft work. It aims to reveal the relationships between physical objects and the emotional journey or technical processes behind their making. The exhibition runs from 29 June - 1 September 2013.

There will be a launch party with music and buffet, 5-7pm on 28 June (£7/£10).

DIY gallery competition and free craft demos every Saturday from 29 June - 31 August.
