Access to full fibre broadband has been rolled out to another 1,700 homes and businesses by internet service provider Airband as part of the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme.

The network of Gigabit capable full fibre broadband is now live in areas of Cotford St Luke, Staplegrove, and Monkton in Somerset, as well as parts of Bradninch, Tiverton, Calverleigh, Cruwys Morchard, Halberton, Nomansland, Withleigh, Powderham, Bishopsteignton, Luscombe and Tavistock in Devon.

Work is also nearing completion on providing access to a further 1,150 homes and businesses...

Community in Topsham supported with fibre broadband connections

People in Topsham are celebrating after the completion of a scheme to connect around 120 homes and businesses in the town to Gigabit capable fibre broadband.

Local resident Andy Rook led a community effort for fibre connections to the Greatwood Terrace area of Topsham, which previously suffered from poor connectivity.

CDS calls for flexible Government approach for hard to reach areas

Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) is calling for a flexible approach from Government to improve broadband connectivity in very hard to reach areas in order to avoid the risk of communities “being left behind”.

In its response to the Government’s consultation on the issue, CDS states that a mix of large contractual delivery, in parallel with support for community solutions through voucher schemes, is needed to tackle the challenges of delivering broadband to the most rural communities.

Preparations are well underway for the roll-out of the full fibre network through the recently awarded contracts from the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme.

Around 56,000 homes and businesses will be provided with access to Gigabit capable broadband by internet providers Airband, Truespeed and Wessex Internet.

Mobile phone coverage in some of the most rural areas of Devon and Somerset is set to be improved under a new scheme.

Rural communities in mid Devon and west Somerset have received a huge boost to their broadband, thanks to Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) in partnership with Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and Exeter based broadband provider Technological. Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) has launched its Fibre Extension Programme which will provide more than 8,000 homes and businesses with fibre broadband connections direct to the premises by the end of 2021.

Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) has today launched a fresh procurement to find new contractors to roll-out superfast broadband across the two counties.

The Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) broadband programme has today announced that it is now offering vouchers through the national BDUK Better Broadband Scheme.

All homes and businesses in the region with broadband speeds of less than two Megabits per second (Mbps), without a published delivery date for superfast broadband within the next 12 months, are now eligible to apply for an interim solution under the voucher scheme.
