Art piece by Exeter medical student spurs British Red Cross action to help animals in Crisis

A striking art piece by a University of Exeter medical student is encouraging British Red Cross volunteers across the South West to adequately stock their vehicles with pet food ahead of rescue operations.

The fifth year student, inspired by the poignant bond shared between humans and their pets, particularly shown in images of families fleeing war-torn Ukraine with pets by their side , created an art piece entitled “ Compassion in a war .”

Ukrainian opera singer from Exeter features in concert raising over 5,000 for British Red Cross’s Ukraine appeal

A concert featuring a Ukrainian opera singer in Devon has raised more than £5,000 for the British Red Cross’s Ukraine appeal.

The concert took place on November 12, 2022, at Luppitt Village Hall in East Devon, featuring musical acts, an auction and a raffle.

Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Iryna Ilnytska, who lives in Exeter, opened the night with two songs – a Ukrainian lullaby and a folk song called ‘The Moon in the Sky’.

David Kalisch, from Combe Raleigh, and Roger Hicks, from Luppitt, organised the event and also appeared as busking duo Blue Sky.

Up to 59 % of pre-hospital deaths could be prevented

Up to 59 per cent of ‘pre-hospital’ deaths from injury could potentially be prevented if more people stepped in with some simple first aid, according to new research commissioned by the British Red Cross and conducted by the University of Manchester. British Red Cross aid workers arrive in Nepal

British Red Cross aid workers are arriving in the region to assess the damage wreaked by the devastating 7.9 scale earthquake, which struck just outside the Nepalese capital on Saturday.

These teams will join British Red Cross and International Federation of the Red Cross teams already in Nepal to help coordinate relief effort on the ground.

Aid is being sent to Nepal from Red Cross regional warehouses in Kuala Lumpur and Dubai and will be distributed to the thousands of people affected by the quake.
