Sheep Return to Bideford Bridge in Celebration of 555 Years of Westcountry Wool Heritage

A centuries-old tradition will return to North Devon when sheep are driven across Bideford Bridge during the Bideford Town Fair on Saturday 6 June at 10.00am.

The ceremonial sheep drive, last undertaken in 2012, will be led by the historic Incorporation of Weavers, Fullers and Shearmen as part of celebrations marking 555 years since the Guild was gifted land in Exeter on which it built the magnificent Tuckers Hall - the medieval home of the Incorporation and one of the country’s most important surviving guild halls.

Woman and child among three dead in A38 crash

Three people died and nine people were left injured in a serious multiple vehicle collision on the A38 near Landrake yesterday morning [Sunday 9 July].

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at 11.15am following the collision involving five cars between Tideford and Landrake.

A woman and a child from one car sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. A second child from the car sustained potentially serious head injuries and was airlifted by air ambulance to Bristol Children’s Hospital. The injuries are not believed life-threatening at this...

North Devon man jailed for murdering partner

A 74-year-old Bideford man has been convicted of murdering his partner at Exeter Crown Court today (23 June).

Edgar Fairhurst, 74, was charged with the murder of Marjorie Elphick, 83, after her body was discovered at their home in Riverside Close, Bideford, in the early hours of Wednesday 30 December 2015.

The jury found Fairhurst guilty of murder following a four-day trial and he was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 20 years.

Bideford salutes start of armed forces week with Victoria park flag raising event

On 20th June Torridge District Council combined with Bideford Town Council for this now annual parade to honour the Armed Forces at the beginning of Armed Forces Week by holding a Flag Breaking Ceremony in Victoria Park Bideford.

The Tarka Pipe Band led the parade from the Quay in Bideford to the flagstaff at Victoria Park which consisted of serving Royal Marines from 11 Amphibious Trails and Training at Arromanches Camp, Instow, veterans from the Armed Forces, Cadets, Cubs and Brownies.

Lydia Robinson has been found safe and well. Police have thanked the public for their help in finding her.

Police are seeking the public’s help to locate a 14-year-old who is missing from Bideford.

Lydia Robinson was last seen at an address in the town at lunchtime on Tuesday 23 June and officers are concerned for her welfare.

UKIP Parliamentary Candidate Derek Sargent and ‘flying column’ supporters hit the streets of Bideford on Saturday morning. Almost everyone spoken to in and around the town’s High Street and Pannier market areas, pledged their support for Derek in the upcoming May 7th election and some said they’d already voted by post.

Man dies after collision with lorry in Devon

A car driver has died following a collision with a lorry on the A39 near Bideford this morning (Wednesday 14 January).

Police and other emergency services were called shortly before 6.53am to the collision.

The red Volvo lorry, registered to Bideford, overturned, shedding its load of logs across the carriageway on the A39, two miles from Bideford, towards Barnstaple.
