Close on the heels of scooping four golds in the 2014 allAgents Awards, Crediton-based sales and lettings agency, Helmores, is celebrating after winning yet another national award.

Former Exeter Chiefs rugby player Chris Whitehead has been named as guest speaker at Teignbridge District Council’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2014.

Mr Whitehead, who retired from top flight rugby earlier this year and is using his playing expertise as coach at Western Counties league side Kingsbridge, has been unveiled as a key speaker at the sport gala event on Friday 28 November at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.

Exeter businesses and schools picked up the lion’s share of awards at the 22nd DEBI Environmental Awards held at the Met Office.

The annual event seeks to recognise organisations that go the extra mile in environmental best practice.

Quickes' consistent quality leads to triple triumph

Following the World Cheese Awards on Friday - leading traditional clothbound Cheddar producer, Quickes, is celebrating winning three gold medals for their Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage Cheddars.

The latest achievements followed an intensive day’s judging that took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.

Devon celebrates long serving foster carers

Foster carers from across Devon were celebrated for their exceptional service to Fostering Devon.

The annual Carer Celebration Awards took place at County Hall in Exeter where over 60 carers received a certificate of appreciation. Around 120 people (including many foster children) gathered to recognise the achievements of carers who have given between 5 and 30+ years of their lives to fostering.

Bike Shed Theatre awarded Clore Prize Fund

The Bike Shed Theatre is delighted to announce that it has received a major award from the Clore Prize Fund, at a prestigious ceremony in London’s Natural History Museum on Tuesday 4th November. The £50,000 award follows the theatre’s recent success in being added to the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio - and will be used to support the next generation of emerging South West and beyond theatre companies to develop and produce nationally recognised work.

Devon County Council is delighted to announce that one of it's most popular visitor destinations, Stover Country Park, is a finalist in this years Devon Tourism Awards.

The park and nature reserve is up for either a bronze, silver or gold in the Access & Inclusivity Award category.

National recognition for council team

East Devon District Council’s Revenues and Benefits team have received national recognition with two awards from a professional association.

The team are responsible for collecting council tax and for processing claims for council tax support, housing benefit and other assistance for people who may be struggling to pay their civic bills. Their work involves a great deal of contact with customers, many of whom are experiencing difficulty in making ends meet and so need to be treated with respect and sensitivity by council staff.

Local charities have won a clutch of awards – mainly for environmental work.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park was recognised for its environmental sustainability in both the Palm 105.5fm Local Heroes awards and the Herald Express South Devon Tourism & Hospitality Awards. In addition, Living Coasts won the silver award in the Most Effective Marketing category of the Herald Express awards.
