150 mourners say goodbye to brave Catherine

Around 150 mourners turned out to pay their respects to former Exeter journalist Catherine Fraser.

The 48-year-old mother of one died suddenly last month after a second bout of cancer.

Her funeral took place today at the Exeter & Devon Crematorium where there was standing room only.

Among those paying their respects were Exeter City FC manager Paul Tisdale and a number of players.

They were joined by director of football Steve Perryman and the club's vice chairman Julian Tagg.

Early risers raise charity cash

Several staff and friends of Exeter PR, marketing and design agency Astley Media had an early start to their Bank Holiday Sunday after offering to volunteer at the weekly Matford Car Boot Sale.

The 11-strong team helped out with everything from collecting money on the gate and litter picking afterwards.

In return they received a substantial donation which will go towards the Exeter Chiefs charity, the Exeter Foundation.

Call for Exeter firms to go international

A business that connects trainees from around the world with companies in Devon is expanding its work in Exeter.

The Training Partnership puts together companies with high-calibre trainees looking to improve their business skills, providing short term work placements that benefit both. Placements are supernumerary and funded through EU schemes such as Erasmus+ and PONS.

Several Exeter-based organisations are already signed up, including the blur Group, Exeter City Council and MOTO.

Devon agencies in merger

Two Devon agencies have merged to broaden the offer they provide to clients.

Lisa Singleton, the owner of Zebra Design, has joined Astley Media as creative director.

The two firms have been working closely for 18 months but will become one business on April 1.

Lisa has built up a large portfolio of clients since launching Zebra, based in Tedburn St Mary, five years ago.

They will join those currently being served by Astley Media, which include EDF Energy, Aviva Investors and the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

Fast-growing Exeter firm, Astley Media has won the contract to provide PR and marketing support for the new Queen Street dining quarter.

The business was selected from a local shortlist by the developers and site owners Aviva Investors.

This is the latest of a number of major contracts the firm has secured in the past six months.

Other clients include EDF Energy, Stagecoach South West and East Midlands and the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

Exeter PR firm scoops two top awards

Devon-based PR and marketing firm Astley Media has scooped two top accolades, including a prestigious award from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

For the second year running, Astley Media has become the only Devon PR agency to be recognised by the Institute for the quality of its work for clients, picking up a Silver Award, to add to last year’s Gold, at the ceremony in Bristol on Friday (Nov 21).

Stagecoach South West is celebrating winning a special commendation at the 2014 UK Bus Awards, held in London on 18th November 2014.

The commendation was given for ‘Keeping the West open for business’ for their efforts during the Dawlish rail closure.

Ashley completes 24 hour challenge

A Devon businesswoman has carried out 24 tasks in 24 hours to raise £2,000 for the Exeter Foundation.

Starting with swimming across the River Exe, and finishing 24 hours later with a sky dive, Ashley Petrons took on an array of tasks for the round the clock fundraiser in Exeter.

A training session with the Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, selling the Big Issue, serving breakfast at the Southgate Mercure Exeter Hotel, and a bake off with Little French Cakes at Intoto Kitchens were all successfully completed by 28-year-old Ashley, of PR and marketing firm Astley Media.
