Exeter cultural venues celebrate new season

On 5th September, Exeter’s cultural venues will celebrate a new season of events taking place in the city.

The Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter Cathedral, The Cygnet Theatre, Devon Libraries, Exeter Northcott Theatre, Exeter Phoenix and RAMM, will officially announce an exciting programme of events taking place between September and December at a launch party held at The Bike Shed Theatre.

Selection panel for Open Art Exhibition announced

With two weeks remaining for artists to apply to be part of this year’s Exeter Contemporary Open, the selection panel has been announced.

Exeter Contemporary Open is one of the highlights of the South West’s arts calendar. Now in its eleventh year, it provides an important national platform for contemporary visual art with an emphasis on supporting new and emerging talent alongside more established artists.

Past selection panels have included artists and curators such as David Shrigley, Ceri Hand, Alex Hartley, Hannah Firth, Day & Gluckman and Kevin Hunt.

Get Changed are delighted to present a contemporary dance interpretation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This is part of an 18-month project to commemorate Lewis Carroll’s story of Alice. Exeter’s busiest multi-artform venue is set to start a new spring season of events spanning everything from live performance, comedy and music, arthouse cinema and documentaries to contemporary art exhibitions. Crediton schools join community arts project

Schools in Crediton have joined together in a major arts project and will display their creations in a special ‘pop-up’ exhibition in the town after Easter.

Pupils from Landscore Primary School have been working on a project using mosaics as well as teaming up with students from Queen Elizabeth’s Community College’s art and English department to make prints.

Children from Haywards Primary School have been using ceramics in their project.

All their creations will go on show with other work in textiles and photography by older people in the town at an exhibition...

Daisi secures funds for performance piece on the life of Lise Meitner

Arts in Education charity Daisi has secured £1500 in funding from the Institute of Physics (IOP) through its Public Engagement Grant Scheme, to run performances detailing the life and work of 20th century female physicist Lise Meitner.

This year, there were over fifty applications submitted to the IOP for the Public Engagement Grant Scheme. Nine projects were successful in securing funding from the IOP, and over £14,000 was awarded in total.

Applications for arts grants open this week

Arts groups, organisations and artists in Exeter are being invited to apply for grants from the City Council.

Exeter City Council’s Arts Annual Core and Project Grant Fund for 2016/17 will be open for application from Tuesday (1 December).

The funds are available to provide annual core support or one off projects to Exeter based organisations in 2016/17 that aim to benefit residents of Exeter or improve access to the arts and increase participation in arts activity by all of Exeter’s diverse communities
