Student rent prices soar in Exeter

Students at the University of Exeter are facing increased rent payments as on-campus accommodation prices soar ahead for the 2016/17 academic year.

The cheapest accommodation, Moberly House, is set to close in the summer for a new self-catered residence. Students fear this could be the end of affordable accommodation halls.

Phil Attwell, Director of Campus Services at the university said: “The building is in need of some investment… we would like to enhance the facilities on offer by providing high quality accommodation.”

Exeter businesses welcome trainees to the city

Exeter businesses continue to join forces with a Devon work placement company to welcome foreign trainees into the city.

The Training Partnership (TTPL) has found work placements for more than 300 trainees in the region this summer.

The most recent companies to have linked up with TTPL are the Glorious Art House and WiFi Spark, both based in Exeter.

Northgate House blessed at Buckfast Abbey

A special service was held at Buckfast Abbey in Buckfastleigh to bless its recently reopened Northgate House, which has been transformed into luxurious retreat and conference accommodation following an extensive refurbishment project.

Abbot David Charlesworth blessed Northgate House, with choral accompaniment courtesy of the Buckfast Abbey Choir. The ceremony was attended by the Benedictine monks who reside at Buckfast Abbey, in addition to Buckfast Abbey staff members and friends of the organisation.

The Exeter office of leading property consultancy JLL has been instructed to sell the Harrabeer Country House Hotel, Yelverton, an established business on the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park.

South Devon Rural Housing Association (SDR) and Teignbridge District Council are celebrating the opening of a housing development, which provides much needed accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

Set in the Dartmoor National Park area and close to the historic Buckfast Abbey, Braemar Apartments and Merryfield Barns is a development of six apartments and four cottages that provide independent living for people with learning disabilities leaving residential care or other shared accommodation.
