Police increasingly concerned for missing Tiverton man

Devon and Cornwall Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety and welfare of a man who is missing from his Tiverton home.

Robin Prescott, 49, has not been seen since 6am on Thursday 13th December when he left home in Burlescombe to travel to work in Wellington, Somerset.

A man matching Robin’s description was seen getting on the 7.38am train from Taunton to Penzance on that Thursday morning. Police found his car abandoned at Taunton railway station.

Railway Studies Collection receives funding boost

Rail enthusiasts are celebrating the announcement that Devon County Council has secured a grant of £49,600 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve access to its Railway Studies Collection.

Housed in the newly revamped Passmore Edwards Centre in Newton Abbot, the collection is the largest in the UK outside the National Railway Museum in York and is popular with researchers and historians across the world.

Exeter man's body recovered from the River Exe

The body of a man, thought to be in his late 70s, was recovered from the River Exe yesterday at approximately 2pm in the Topsham area.

The man is thought to be local to Exeter and the death is not being treated as suspicious by police.

Officers are currently preparing a file on behalf of the coroner.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Excelsior will be providing four workshops in the afternoon for athletes from 13-19 years old who are interested in getting better for their sport.

  • Physical competency assessment.
  • Eating in the real world.
  • Agility progressions.
  • How to get fit in 30 minutes.

More than 400 households to be hit by legal aid reform

Local charity, Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau, is today warning that more than 400 low-income households with legal problems will be affected by legal aid reform. The reforms, which start at the beginning of April 2013, will see changes to the types of legal advice that are available through legal aid. Debt advice will no longer be eligible and almost all welfare benefits advice will be removed from the scope of legal aid.

Final attempt to save fish from Tiverton Canal

A team from the Environment Agency is returning to the Grand Western Canal at Halberton today in a final attempt to rescue some of the remaining fish from a temporary lake that was created following last month's torrential rain.

Thousands of fish, including pike, perch, bream, tench, roach and eels, were washed out of the canal after a section of bank near Halberton gave way following torrential rain.

Police release EVOFIT of man wanted for burglary

Detectives in Exeter have released an image of a man they would like to find following a burglary at an address in Exeter last month.

A 34-year-old-man has been charged with the offence but police would like to speak to the person pictured, whose image has been compiled with help from a witness.
