Axe Estuary Wetlands launches new Rivers education programme for schools

East Devon District Council (EDDC) is about to launch a new teaching and learning pack for schools, which focuses on the River Axe.

EDDC Education Ranger Meg Knowles and Primary Curriculum Advisor David Weatherly are leading a teacher training day on the Axe Estuary Wetlands on Monday 15 April.

Four teeagers led to safety during Ten Tors training

Four teenagers have been found safe and well after they became separated from the adults they were with while training for Ten Tors. The alarm was raised at 7.45pm on Saturday 9 March 2013 when the missing youngsters rang the police, but were unable to give their exact location. Warning following spate of burglaries in East Devon

Residents in East Devon have been advised to check their sheds and outbuildings following a spate of burglaries in the area.

Officers are investigating 16 burglaries, which have targeted sheds, garages and outbuildings over recent months.

Offenders have forced locks and taken items including gardening and building tools, vehicle parts, bicycles and fuel.

Particular areas affected are Ottery St Mary, Whimple, West Hill, Woodbury and Lympstone.

Aspect Windows staff will don their red noses on Friday 15 March as they attempt to raise money for Comic Relief 2013 with a bake sale at their Exeter showroom.

Nightstop launches Spare Room Campaign in Devon

Nightstop Devon, a local charity project, is today launching a 'Spare Room Campaign' in partnership with other Nightstops around the country.

The campaign is in response to the recent huge rises in youth homelessness across the UK of up to 300%.

Nightstop hosts provide emergency accommodation to young people in the homes of volunteer hosts, members of the public who have a spare room in their house.

Scientists are launching a Europe-wide survey which aims to provide the first detailed insight into people’s perceptions of marine litter.
