Irish fly-half Gareth Steenson admitted it was important for the Exeter Chiefs to rediscover their winning formula ahead of what is a crucial festive period for the club in the Aviva Premiership.

Winless in their five previous fixtures heading into last weekend, Rob Baxter's side not only defied the atrocious wintry conditions at Sandy Park, but also visiting Newcastle Falcons, to record their sixth victory in the top flight this term.

Severe delays to bus and train travel

There is severe disruption to rail and bus services today as very strong winds and heavy rain continue to hit the South West.

Many of Stagecoach bus routes have been delayed by the weather and at least two routes have been affected by falling trees.

Both the service 2 bus and the D&H Exeter bus are following diverted routes due to roads blocked by falling trees. The D&H bus is not running at the university as a result of the blocked road.

Service B cannot serve part of Trusham Road, diverted via Sainsburys (P&R ok at the moment), Services 4 and 52 cannot...

Be flood aware this Christmas

People who are set to be away for the festive period are urged to check the flood risk for their local area and, if necessary, take steps to protect valuable items left at home.

Drivers are also urged to check the latest flood updates ahead of their journey - and urged not to drive through dangerous floodwater.

The warning comes after a joint Environment Agency and AA survey found more than half (54%) of UK drivers - around 18million drivers - would endanger themselves and their vehicles by driving through moving flood water.

Devon Schools take part in The Big Crib Project

Pupils from three church Primary Schools in Devon have been busy this christmas due to taking part in The Big Crib Project.

The Big Crib Project, organised by the education department of the Exeter Diocese, aims to strengthen links between church primary schools and parish churches.

To strengthen this link schools Lady Seaward's C of E Primary School, Offwell C of E Primary School and Brixton St Mary's C of E Primary School are enlivening their parish churches by creating life size models of the nativity scene.

Fatal accident results in M5 Closure

The M5 Devon was closed yesterday following a fatal accident involving one vehicle.

The accident happened between junction 27 and 26 northbound shortly before 4pm.

A car is reported to have left the motorway and careered down an embankment, ending up in a field. The motorway was closed to enable collision investigators to examine the scene.

Vehicles were taken off the motorway at junction 27 and sent along the A38 to re-join the motorway at J26.

Thugs vandalise public toilets

Fire services were called to public toilets in Whipton Village Road on Saturday ( 21st December) after a fire was deliberately started.

Two fire engines from Exeter were mobilised to reports of a toilet block on fire on Whipton Village Road.

On arrival crews confirmed small fire in toilet block measuring 3m x 5m.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet and ppv fan to extinguish the fire.

Police are aware of the incident, but at this moment in time there have been no arrests.

The Lady Taverners hold christmas lunch at Abode

The Devon and Exeter region of The Lady Taverners held a Christmas lunch at Abode in Exeter on Tuesday 10th December.

The Lady Taverners believe that recreational activities and sport are imperative to helping young people fulfil their potential. Their focus is raising funds for specially adapted minibuses, sports wheelchairs, multi-sensory and soft play equipment and supporting girls' cricket.

Their recent lunch helped to raise £1,500 for projects to enable disadvantaged and disabled youngsters to have greater access to sport and outdoor activities.
