Rugby club celebrates 130 years

Exeter-based Wealth Management Company Brewin Dolphin, organised a special coaching session by two Exeter Chiefs players with the Sidmouth Rugby Football Club which is celebrating its 130th anniversary.

Founded in 1884, Sidmouth RFC is playing this season in the Western Counties West League. Brewin Dolphin organised the visit by Chiefs first team players Phil Dollman and Ben Moon to the club’s home ground to help prepare the Sidmouth Chiefs train for their league game against Tavistock Away.

The focus of this year’s Domestic Abuse Awareness Week in Devon (24-28 Nov) is the impact of domestic abuse on children and families.

The poignant message for this year’s campaign, ‘Domestic Abuse Shatters Lives’, highlights the impact of abuse on victims as well as highlighting the impact on others surrounding that victim, including children and young people.

One in four women and one in six men experiencing domestic abuse at some point in their lives, and an estimated 750,000 children witness domestic abuse within their home in the UK each year.

NHS staff to strike this week

GMB members in the NHS in England and Northern Ireland will take part in further industrial action, alongside ten other NHS unions, this week (commencing Monday 24 November) in a dispute over pay. It is likely to include a four-hour stoppage and a programme of action short of a strike.

Unions taking action are GMB, Unison, Unite, UCATT, Society of Radiographers, Royal College of Midwives, POA, Managers in Partnership, British Association of Occupational Therapists, British Dietetic Association, and Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association.

Regional Innovation funding boost for Devon projects

Innovative projects in Devon and Cornwall will receive a share of a £2.5m fund to help change patients’ lives and improve care through innovation.

A total of eight projects in the area were announced as winners of the NHS England’s Regional Innovation Fund which was launched in April to support and promote the adoption and spread of innovation across the NHS. It provides opportunities for clinicians to work in new ways driving innovation which can change patients’ lives.
