Easter crackdown on illegal raves

Devon and Cornwall Police are fully prepared to prevent and disrupt any illegal rave activity across the two counties over the Easter holiday.

During the spring and summer Devon and Cornwall can be vulnerable to illegal raves, such as the problems encountered in recent years at Bellever and Davidstow.

Each year police have to remove a number of illegal raves which diverts valuable resources away from regular policing and has a damaging impact on the affected communities and the local environment.

Date change for Big Walk

With an extremely busy couple of months coming up at Sandy Park, the Exeter Foundation’s annual Big Walk has been postponed until September.

The event will now take place on Sunday, 20th September, coinciding with the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup.

The 10-mile sponsored walk, which last year raised several thousand pounds for the Exeter Foundation, starts and finishes at Rugby World Cup venue Sandy Park and takes in a flat, scenic route through the Exe Valley.

Science Park link road nears completion

Cumberland Way will be closed for a weekend in April as work on a new road connection to Exeter Science Park nears completion.

The new £3 million road, which is on schedule to open later this Spring, will eventually link Cumberland Way to the existing Tithebarn Lane bridge and the northern end of the Exeter Science Park.

A new roundabout on Cumberland Way, which will be constructed over the coming weeks, will provide a junction from the Tithebarn Link Road. Road closures and traffic management are needed to allow the roundabout to be built.

Devon agencies in merger

Two Devon agencies have merged to broaden the offer they provide to clients.

Lisa Singleton, the owner of Zebra Design, has joined Astley Media as creative director.

The two firms have been working closely for 18 months but will become one business on April 1.

Lisa has built up a large portfolio of clients since launching Zebra, based in Tedburn St Mary, five years ago.

They will join those currently being served by Astley Media, which include EDF Energy, Aviva Investors and the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel.

An Exmouth dental surgery is encouraging anyone suffering discomfort with their dentures to contact their dentist, after experiencing a surge in older people asking for help and advice.

Police target rogue drivers on M5

Operation Vortex, the successful road safety campaign run by Devon and Cornwall Police, is to be staged on Thursday 2 April and on days throughout April and May.

Police will be using a number of unmarked vehicles including police motorbikes to help identify and target motorists who disregard road traffic laws and cause danger to others.
