Drugs gang jailed for 70 years

After a 16-month operation, named Op Spean, a drugs gang from London and their Exeter-based drugs runners have been sentenced to over 70 years in prison at Exeter Crown Court.

All 15 defendants pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to supply Class A controlled drugs or the concern in the supply of Class A drugs.

Sentencing for the London gang took place today (Friday 12 June).

Police are trying to trace Chanelle Ford, a 23-year-old woman from Crowborough, who has been reported missing after not having spoken to her family since Wednesday 3 June.

This has been described as out-of-character and officers are keen to ensure that Chanelle, also known as Nell, is safe and well.

Neil Parish MP today pledged his support to carers across Tiverton and Honiton as part of the national Carers Week 2015 awareness campaign, which runs from 8-14th June.

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who care for a partner, relative or friend, of which 10,911 carers are in Tiverton and Honiton.

Five arrested following Exeter drugs warrant

Five people have been arrested following warrants executed in West London and Exeter.

On Tuesday 9 June, officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, assisted by officers from the Metropolitan Police, executed a number of warrants in relation to an ongoing investigation into organised crime groups from London using the vulnerable to sell Class-A drugs on the streets of Exeter.

Five people in total have been arrested on conspiracy to supply class-A drugs; three people from West London aged 18, 21 and 25.

Ofcom introduces clearer call charges

Millions of telephone users in the South West will benefit from clearer call charges being introduced next month by the telecoms regulator Ofcom.

From 1 July, landline and mobile charges will become clearer for calls to numbers starting 084, 087, 09 and 118, while Freephone will become free from mobiles.

People use these ‘service numbers’ every day for finding out information, contacting a business or helpline, or using competition, directory-enquiry, entertainment and voting services.
