City architects, Living Space, are celebrating planning success, today, thanks to a winning application to convert office space back into residential dwellings more than 200 years after they were built.
The terrace of three Georgian townhouses, 38-40 Southernhay were constructed around the time of the old Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital but have, like much of the tree lined square, been used as commercial space for decades. In a notable planning decision, Living Space secured mixed-use approval, with two apartments planned for the site.
This week my dining companion and I were fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of the new menu at Bella Italia in Queen Street, Exeter. I was particularly excited about this having enjoyed my precious visit so much.

The Dean of Exeter has honoured the Tongan national rugby team during their stay in Exeter as part of this year’s Rugby World Cup.
Players from the squad, who were visiting the Cathedral on Tuesday with their families, accepted honorary membership of the Friends of the Cathedral of behalf of the entire national team. People in Exmouth will soon be able to access and use part of the town’s former Rolle College site, it was revealed yesterday.
Community benefit society Rolle Exmouth Limited (REL) has signed a licence with the owners of the site, Plymouth University, on behalf of the Exmouth community, granting them the right to use the Owen Building.
The group is describing it as a ‘major step’ in reinvigorating the site, empty since the University relocated its Faculty of Arts and Education in 2008.

The rise in virtualization in the IT industry has had major impacts on reducing IT costs not to mention ease of operation and the management of resources. For example, some virtual SAN (Storage Area Network) vendors claim clients can save up to 40% on possible hardware and software costs if they invest in a virtual SAN as opposed to pursuing the hardware storage route.
What is required for virtual storage?
Essentially, two software packages are required:
• A hypervisor such as VMware’s vSphere or Microsoft’s Hyper-V • A virtual SAN package
Brake, the road safety charity, is calling on the government to show strong leadership and reintroduce causality reduction targets as the Department for Transport publishes its Reported Road Casualties in Great Britain Annual Report for 2014. It shows that 1,775 people died on the roads (a 4% increase on the year before). 22,807 more were seriously injured (a 5% annual increase).
Casualties of all severities rose to 194,477 in Great Britain in 2014, an increase of 6% from 2013, interrupting what was a steady downward trend since 1997.
