RISE Recovery celebrate first peer supporter graduation

The inspirational achievements of nine peer supporters at RISE Recovery Integrated Services were recognised at the first ever RISE Peer Supporter graduation on Tuesday 22nd September.

The graduation ceremony was held at RISE Exeter with peer supporters coming from RISE services across the county including Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Exeter.

Over the last year each of the peer supporters completed an ‘Understanding the Principles of Care, Organisational Policies and the Role of the Supporter’ training course accredited by NOCN and have since become a vital part of...

Join Exeter Hospiscare's Bring a £1 Day

Join more than 60 Exeter businesses, schools and organisations who are taking part in Hospiscare’s big fundraising event, Bring a £1 Day, on Friday October 9.

They are all keen to support the local charity which last year cared for 632 terminally ill Exeter patients and their families, with 473 people being visited in their own homes by Hospiscare nurses and 164 local people were admitted to the hospice.

Hospiscare is calling on local people to collect their £1 coins and bring them to Princesshay to put them in a giant pink collection hat.

Preston Street Union: 13 October - 7 November

As part of his residency at Spacex artist and independent curator Trevor Pitt is setting up Preston Street Union - PSU an affiliation of artists from in and around Exeter that will come together over a five week period to explore collaboration as a strategy for artists making things and making things happen.

Police warning after increase in dog attacks

Police in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset have been contacting local schools at the start of the new term, highlighting the need for dog safety.

Forcewide the number of people injured by dogs has risen sharply. In August 2014 there were 6 cases of a person being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. In July 2015 that figure had risen to 63.

As a result of this police, in partnership withthe RSPCA and the Dogs Trust, are contacting primary schools and offering safety advice.

Chiefs name side to face Gloucester

Having chopped and changed personnel for the first two fixtures in this year’s Westcountry Challenge Cup, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is promising a more settled approach for the final two games of the competition.

Firms urged to reap the benefits of BEEP

Young unemployed people in Devon could soon benefit from a new mentoring scheme if businesses step up to support the initiative.

Launched in January as a pilot project by Exeter City Council as part of its Rugby World Cup legacy programme, all but one of the first group of 16-24 year olds involved have gone on to secure work or training opportunities.

And now the Council is encouraging local companies to get involved, so hundreds more local young people who are struggling to progress to employment can reap the benefits.
