Plans to be submitted for Sidbury to Sidford walking and cycling trail

A planning application for a proposed walking and cycling trail from Sidbury to Sidford will shortly be submitted by Devon County Council.

The scheme includes a 1km surfaced walkway and cycleway running between Laundry Lane in Sidford and the southern boundary of Sidbury. The trail runs along agricultural land on the Eastern side of the A375 and then passes onto boardwalk through woodland at Sidbury.

The route has been chosen following public exhibitions in Sidbury and Sidford in February 2014, as well as consultation with affected parties and a presentation to Sidmouth...

Cyclists raise £12,000 for Exeter charities

A team of cyclists from Moshulu in Honiton have raised 12,400 for two Devon based charities by cycling 1,200 miles across the length of the country from John O'Groats to Lands End.

Father and son Neal and Matt Fulls and their friend Chris Pope took nine days in June to cycle from the tip of Scotland to the most westerly point in Cornwall in aid of their chosen charities – the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and FORCE Cancer Charity.

Exeter leads the way in green energy

Exeter is one of over 50 UK cities that has pledged to be run entirely on green energy by 2050.

The City Council has joined the likes of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds to make the environmental commitment to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions.

Exeter's pledge comes ahead of crucial international climate change talks in Paris next month (December).

The Family Law Company, sponsors of The Bike Shed Theatre's Christmas show, are giving fifty tickets to local charities this Christmas.

Rooney backs campaign as SW children's cancer death rates drop

England captain Wayne Rooney is spearheading a campaign celebrating the courage of South West children with cancer, as new figures released today (26 November) offer increased hope of surviving the disease. According to Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens, the rate of children dying from cancer has dropped by almost a quarter (24 per cent) in the UK in the last decade. The news comes as the charity launches its annual Star Awards, in partnership with TK Maxx, across the South West. Around 130 children in the region are diagnosed with cancer each year. Drainage improvements planned for Sidmouth

Drainage improvements are due to be carried out in Temple Street in Sidmouth early next year.

The road will be closed from Ascerton Road to Sid Park Road for five weeks, starting from Monday 18 January.

New drainage pipes and connections will be installed, old brick gullies will be replaced, and gulley covers and frames will be upgraded. The scheme also involves reconstruction and resurfacing of the road and footway.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are taking part in the Crediton Road Traffic Event on Saturday 28 November, working alongside the Police, HART ambulance team and the Honest Truth team.

Devon's Youth Offending Service has received a nationally acclaimed accreditation for the way it works with young offenders and their victims.
