Dartmoor rangers to carry on wearing video cameras

Rangers working on Dartmoor are to carry on using body-worn video cameras in response to anti-social and hostile behaviour by some visitors.

One ranger was able to use footage from a miniature camera to prove that he hadn’t knocked down a member of the public with his Land Rover.

A two-year trial of the cameras which began in February 2022 has been a success, and rangers say they feel safer as a result.

Now members of the Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) are poised to give the go-ahead for the cameras to stay in use.

Households will be able to dispose of small amounts of DIY waste for free at Devon's Household Waste Recycling Centres, from Sunday 31 December. Up to now, the legal definition of household waste has not included materials from the repair or improvement of houses, for example, home improvement types of waste, so councils have had no obligation to accept such waste free of charge. Councils have used the revenue to invest back in to keep waste services running. Dr John Martin has formally taken on the role of Chief Executive at the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).

John joins the Trust on secondment from his role as Chief Paramedic and Quality Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at London Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
