NHS Chief Amanda Pritchard receives honorary degree from the University of Exeter

The head of NHS England, Amanda Pritchard, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Exeter for her efforts in improving health and ensuring high quality of care for all in England.

Amanda was appointed Chief Executive of the National Health Service (NHS) in August 2021 during the pandemic - a time of immense pressure on the system. Upon her appointment, she became the first ever female leader in the history of an organisation whose staff are more than three-quarters women.

Small amounts of DIY waste to be accepted free of charge at Household Waste Recycling Centres from the New Year

Households will be able to dispose of small amounts of DIY waste for free at Devon's Household Waste Recycling Centres, from Sunday 31 December. Up to now, the legal definition of household waste has not included materials from the repair or improvement of houses, for example, home improvement types of waste, so councils have had no obligation to accept such waste free of charge. Councils have used the revenue to invest back in to keep waste services running. But the government has changed the legislation such that a small amount of DIY waste will be accepted at Household Waste Recycling...

Dr John Martin has formally taken on the role of Chief Executive at the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).

John joins the Trust on secondment from his role as Chief Paramedic and Quality Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at London Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

An experienced Executive Board member with a wealth of clinical and operational experience across ambulance, acute, community and mental health NHS services, John is also a Visiting Professor in Paramedic Science at the University of Hertfordshire.

Police officers in Exeter have thanked the public for their support in the run up to the festive period.

The busy Christmas market, which ran for a month in the Cathedral Green area, attracts bumper crowds of visitors and the local Neighbourhood Police Team have been kept busy ensuring the safety of the public in the city.

Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home, in Exeter, got in the Christmas spirit by holding their first ever pantomime at the home.

Jack and the Beanstalk was this year’s play of choice! Staff dressed up and got into character and resident Brian even played a part as the Giant. It was hilariously wonderful which had residents, their families and staff in stitches all the way throughout.

A truly fantastic way to end the week!

Barchester’s Cumberland Grange care home, in Exeter, got in the Christmas spirit by taking a festive horse and Carriage ride up over Woodbury Common this week!

Thanks to Cobs & Carriages, Exmouth, residents and staff had a brilliant time together as they enjoyed a gentle ride across an incredibly beautiful part of Devon in Woodbury.

They didn’t let the weather stop them from having a great time and instead wrapped up in warm, cosy blankets and enjoyed the Christmas music and the wonderful company of each other.
