Firefighters tackle thatch roof blaze

Dozens of firefighters have been tackling a blaze at two thatched cottages near Exeter.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting that their thatch roof was on fire in a property at Sowton, nerar Exeter.

Fire appliances from Middlemoor, Topsham, Danes Castle, Ottery St Mary, Cullompton and Exmouth were mobilised by fire control at 6.35pm yesterday (8 March).

Activity in the South West’s housing market remained subdued during the month of February as the average stock levels on estate agents’ books in the region hit a near record low, according to the February 2018 RICS UK Residential Market Survey. Exeter College has held its annual awards celebrating the achievements of exceptional apprentices and their employers.

More than 160 apprentices, employers, civic and business leaders, friends and family attended the glittered awards ceremony, sponsored by law firm Foot Anstey.

Hampton by Hilton Exeter Airport has opened its new 40-bedroom extension, and now offers 160 rooms to guests.

Norlin Hotels who own and manage this busy and friendly, modern hotel have invested over £3.5million in the extension and refurbishment of the property.
