Care Sector Expert Mel Isherwood Joins Langford Park as Home Manager
Langford Park Care Home, just outside Exeter, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mel Isherwood as its new home manager. With a lifelong commitment to health and social care, Mel brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the role.
Mel’s journey into care began at the age of 17, when she undertook a placement at a day care centre for the elderly. It was there that she discovered her calling, setting her on a path that has spanned her entire professional life.
After leaving school, Mel worked for a care home agency for a decade, gaining invaluable experience across a wide range of care settings and services. Driven to make a broader impact, Mel pursued a degree in Health and Social Care with the Open University. She later achieved a distinction in a master’s degree in autism from the University of Birmingham.
Mel’s career in care continued through senior roles with Plymouth City Council and as a Supported Living Coordinator. She went on to establish and successfully run her own domiciliary care company for ten years. It is during this time that Mel was also a judge at the Great British Care Awards, celebrating excellence in care. More recently, Mel held the position of regional manager for a care home operator, overseeing 23 homes across Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, before managing individual homes in Gloucester and Plymouth.
Speaking about her new role, Mel said:
“I am delighted to be the new home manager here at Langford Park. I have been so impressed by the commitment here to delivering the highest quality care by supporting and investing in staff and our environment.
“I am really looking forward to leading the team into a new chapter for the home and supporting everyone employed to be the absolute best they can be.
“I am passionate about person-centred care and ensuring all people who live at Langford Park have choice and agency over their own lives. I want to ensure that everyone who lives here has the best life possible, and that people are supported and their families are involved and influence the direction of the home.”
Outside of work, Mel enjoys arts and crafts and is already planning a painting party to decorate the home’s summer house, where residents will help upcycle the space and its furniture.
Mel added:
“Everyone is welcome to come and see us. The views are fantastic, the activities and food are wonderful and you won’t find a kinder and more caring environment.”
Langford Park Care Home accommodates up to 35 residents in a beautiful rural setting surrounded by fields, wildlife, and farm animals.
