LED Community Leisure recognised as “Unsung Hero” at ‘Hospiscare 40 Club Awards
LED Community Leisure has been honoured with an “Unsung Hero” award by Hospiscare’s 40 Club, recognising four years of dedicated support, fundraising, and community partnership.
Presented at the 40 Club Awards Lunch at The Hall in Exeter, the award celebrates LED Community Leisure’s consistent and meaningful contribution to Hospiscare mission of providing specialist end-of-life care across the local community.
LED Leisure has been a committed member of the 40 Club since the start, supporting Hospiscare through a wide range of initiatives including event hosting, fundraising campaigns, staff-led challenges, and the provision of venues. Over the past four years, the partnership has helped generate vital funds and raise awareness for the charity’s work.
The Hospiscare 40 Club, a network of local businesses committed to supporting the charity, has collectively raised more than £453,000 since it began. In the 2025 - 26 year alone, members contributed over £100,000 - demonstrating the power of the community-driven fundraising.
LED Community Leisure has played a key role in this success. The organisation has hosted and supported several impactful campaigns, including serving as venue partner for the Hilton Ames Funder Games, organising group exercise fundraising classes, and delivering a successful Pink Day campaign. Staff have also gone the extra mile by taking part in high-profile fundraising challenges such as the London Marathon, Exeter Half Marathon, and the Men’s Walk.
A number of LED Community Leisure centres have been central to these events, including Ocean (bowling and events), Ottery Leisure Centre, Broadclyst Leisure Centre, and The Engine Health & Fitness, all of which have provided spaces for fundraising, engagement, and community activity.
Speaking about the award, Ellie Melmoth, Partnerships Manager at Hospiscare, said: “LED have been proud members of the Hospiscare 40 Club since it began four years ago, and their commitment has been unwavering ever since…
"They do everything in their trademark way: humble, driven and full of compassion. We’re incredibly grateful for their ongoing support and proud to continue working together to make a difference.”
The “Unsung Hero” award highlights organisations whose contributions may not always be in the spotlight but have a lasting and meaningful impact. LED Community Leisure’s continuous involvement and community-first approach made them a standout company.
Chris Duchenski, Commercial Leisure Business Manager at LED Community Leisure, said: “It has been a privilege to support the Hospiscare 40 Club. The charity’s work is incredibly important, and it’s been rewarding to play a small part in helping raise awareness and funds. It’s also been great to see colleagues across LED get involved in internal events and wider fundraising activities, including the Funder Games.”
Looking ahead, LED Leisure has confirmed it will continue its support of Hospiscare into 2026-27, building on an already strong partnership and helping to ensure vital services remain available to those who need them most.
This recognition not only celebrates past achievements but also reflects the ongoing importance of local partnerships in delivering compassionate care and strengthening communities across Exeter and beyond.
