Headway Devon the local charity, based in Exeter, that specialises in helping those rehabilitate from head injuries are asking people to wear their hats on May 16th.

Every year supporters of the charity come together for a hat-tastic fundraising day to help them improve the lives of people suffering with brain injury.

Ruth Wells, CEO at Headway Devon says, “supporters of the day are encouraged to make a donation, wear a hat, take photos and share them on social media using the hashtag #HatsForHeadway”.

Previous events have seen participants get really creative with their hats, ranging from funny and quirky to stylish and elegant.

Anyone can get involved or simply join in by joining the Hats for Headway community online

Hats for Headway is a fun and engaging event, held as part of Action for Brain Injury week and designed to raise awareness of the work the charity is involved in.

Action for Brain Injury week this year runs from 19th to 25th May and aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by individuals and families affected by brain injury, promote understanding, and encourage support from the wider public, organisations, and policymakers.

Each year, ABI Week focuses on a specific theme and in 2025 this will be “On a Good Day”, chosen to tell of the fluctuating and unpredictable nature of brain injury, highlighting the gap between capabilities on a good day versus a bad day.

Ruth goes on to say, “By shining a light on the, often, invisible challenges of brain injury, ABI Week educates the public about the physical, cognitive, and emotional effects of brain injury. During the week we invite everyone to join in with a range of activities.”

Headway Devon has providing services for people with brain injuries across large areas of Devon for over 20 years.
