When life gives you lemons: Remember it could be worse!
Life can be tough, everyone knows that, but sometimes people can make it more difficult on themselves than it should be. There is enough to get you down in this life without bringing yourself down as well. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, a heartbreak or having financial issues, there are plenty of things that are out of your control which can bring you down.
In these situations, it’s important to look for the support that you need. If you need help then you should be talking about it instead of keeping it all inside. Sometimes though in life, you can get yourself down as we can make our own lives tough with such behaviours like setting expectations that are way too high and sitting in your comfort zone.
It’s always important to put life into perspective and realise what’s important, what you should be worrying about and what you need to let go. When you do that you realise that life is full of hardships and things to avoid and that sometimes there is more to worry about than a job that is a little bit too stressful or not getting that promotion that you’ve been working hard for.
Sometimes you may have genuinely have been given a difficult hand in life, and at other times it might just be that you’re looking for an excuse. PlayOJO conducted the research into how fairness is perceived and it led to some very interesting figures such as around one in five thinking they have been given a hard life. Sometimes these can be unfairness that is still a part of society such as gender and age, while other could be class issues and financial status. There are many long-term societal issues that can still cause unfairness.
It’s clear that there are still parts of our society where unfairness can be seen, but while some people are dragged down by these barriers, others will try to overcome them a fight against them. Sometimes, despite some challenges, it can be easy to forget how lucky we have it. Fresh running water, easy access to cheap food and shelter. We live in a privileged society and one where it allows you to achieve anything that you can think of.
If life is giving you lemons though, sometimes the best thing you can ever do is smile. It’s a rough old world out there and if you’re going to get through it, it’s a lot easier to do it with a laugh and a joke. If you’re having a bad day, then this article from Buzzfeed shows that life could be So much worse! There are just days where you think the whole world is mocking you, being late for a train, getting your clothes trapped in a door or dropping your food, sometimes you just can’t wait for the day to end.
Wallowing in self-pity won’t achieve anything, but we’ve all had days where that is the only thing that you want to do. Thinking ahead and not behind you can be a key to happiness, as is being content with what you have. Look around you and value all that is great in your life, and I’m sure you’ll find plenty. If you are in a bad mood though, sometimes watching videos of other people’s failure might be exactly what you need to turn that frown upside down.
If it’s something more serious, then never be afraid to talk. Reaching out when you’re feeling low is always better than keeping it all inside. If you feel like society is letting you down, then go out there and protest against it, or laugh at its challenges. Despite the difficulties in life, it can be a wonderful adventure full of joy and wonder, but its okay if somedays you want to sit in front of the TV with a tub of ice cream.
As the saying goes, when life give you lemons, make lemonade. If you’re at the bottom, then there’s only one direction that you can go in. So dust yourself off, watch some videos of people falling over, put a smile on your face and go out there and take over the world.
